For those that are interested the Economic Development Commitees of both Mecklenburg Co and Charlotte will be meeting tomorrow at 3:30pm at the Goverment Center with Wachovia and ASC to see if a deal can be hashed out. If something can be worked out tomorrow then the deal will go before the whole County Commision and City Council for a vote.

I am a little nervous about this getting approved. My buddy here at work e-mailed the city yesterday and received serval responses back basically stressing how tight the city budget is and how priorities have to be adhered too. I REALLY hope this is not an e-mail that is letting us know in a nut shell that the city is NOT going to move forward with WB. :(

A2, have you emailed the City?  They might react differently if a TV star wrote a note :P

ha-ha  BTW, Bill James just wrote back regarding the arts and tower proposal. I will say this much, It don't look good !

Yeah, I think Bill might be offended by some of the explicit artwork (let's call it what is, shall we, it's porn)  that would be contained within both the Bechtler and the Mint.  Rumor has it that he's still upset that there's an exposed, nipple-baring breast at the Square (you know those artsy types, they're porn lovers you know, always exposing breasts).

I honestly think all is OK. I think this thing is actually going to get more Democrat Votes than Republican. I know in my previous posts I was a bit negative about the whole project, but I just spoke with a friend of mine who stated that the council is going to give the green light. Basically, there will be more Ya's than Na's.

(On a side note, the city also responded about the BofA deal in the e-mail. I am hopeful that this will also come to fruition. I am thinking of walking down to Founders Hall today when they hold the News Conference.)

working for a bank would make me nervous. i just turned down a gig at Wachovia even though it was a higher rate than this Duke gig I'm on simply because I'm scared of working for banks!!! they LOVE to offshore us nerds ...errr i mean software developers

Appears BofA and Wachovia are <gasp> working together on this.

Perhaps BofA is announcing thier project, and suggesting the taxes pay for the museum over at Wachovia.

Now that's what I call TEAMWORK. I would love for two GIANTS that are in direct competition with one another to come together to make this Arts deal a reality. They have the potential to create two wonderful "bookends" to our skyline.

It just occurred to me in all the discussion of the arts projects, that the Wake Forest MBA program that had originally been planned for the Wachovia project is always ommitted from reference when discussing what will go in the project. I always just figured it was because it didn't need any city funding... but i reread the article about the expanded Wachovia project, and the only mention of WF was that it had been part of the original complex, but is not listed specifically as being part of the expanded project.

Is this a Wake Forest MBA program still planned for the Wachovia office building?

Now that you mention that I forgot what the WBTV newscast showed, but they were highlighting parts of the rendering what would go towards what part. The Theatre and Bechtler will go on the lower part of the block separate from the tower and condo. The Mint is under the Wachovia tower. I think they mention Wake Forest, but I forgot where it would be located within the complex.

i'm sure that this will change, and if WF is still a part of the project, it will just go in the office tower, as classrooms are a lot like meeting rooms that are a natural part of all office designs..... but it would be nice to get a recent story or confirmation that WF is still part of the complex. A2, have you heard one way or another in the office memo's?

WF is still part of the proposal (and in fact they are one of the one's pushing for speedy completion). They will take regular office space on the lower floors of the tower.......rumblings that I've heard is they may actually expand from being just an executive MBA program to include a full-time MBA program.....now THAT would be something. A student who wanted to get an Babcock School MBA could just as easily earn it completely in Charlotte as they could in W-S.

step one to getting Wake Forest to completely relocate to charlotte :). Charlotte is to the 2000s as Winston-Salem was to the 1960s, when they moved from wake forest to there.
