  1. This block, the Enterprise block and Wake Forest Med School tower(s) will be very transformative developments for Charlotte/Uptown/SouthEnd. Can't wait to see these get started.
  2. They need a Pins Mechanical. Went to one in Charlotte this weekend and had a blast. Lots of arcade games from my youth.

  5. The only place walkable in Virginia Beach is the oceanfront resort area. Norfolk (in the same metro) is immensely more walkable, dense and urban. And no Charleston, SC on this list? I can't believe Charleston has less "walkable urbanism" than Las Vegas or Orlando or Virginia Beach..... Charlotte at #13 has probably benefited from the growth of SouthEnd.

  7. If the final product is anything like the two buildings are shown in the video that will be amazing. Very beautiful buildings.
  8. If the measure of success for light-rail in Charlotte is economic development, obviously it has been a grand slam. If the measure of success for light-rail in Charlotte is people moving, obviously it has been a strike out. Transit is an investment no doubt. I've stated that before in these threads (that light-rail should be treated as a long-term investment). But do you double down on an investment if it isn't paying off in terms of actual transit? Or do you press ahead knowing the investment pay-off is future economic development? Maybe a light-rail line from the airport to the future Gateway Station should be the extent of the next phase.

If Charlotte/CATS can't figure out how to pay for it (additional light-rail/commuter rail), or if they have to obtain money from the state and/or the federal government, maybe they should refocus their efforts on a more modest type of "people-mover" public transportation that is more affordable to build, grow and maintain, with a more affordable per trip cost and schedule which is convenient to the average user/potential user. I mean I want to drive a nice luxury car but my budget keeps me in the Toyota/Honda category and it gets me where I need to go. If the current light-rail were operating smoothly and effectively future light-rail may be the answer. After all these years of operation that doesn't seem to be the case. Why should more light-rail be the preferred option? Would it be run any more smoothly or effectively? If the answer is "No" then maybe other options should be preferable. Full disclosure: I don't live anywhere near Charlotte so I don't have a dog in the fight (other than I pay state taxes). As an urban development enthusiast I love the idea of a full light-rail people mover transportation system in Charlotte. But, if you can't afford it, don't buy it. The Earth won't stop spinning without it.

  11. I grew up on the other side of the state from Charlotte. In the late 80's my friends and I also called our (lone) Burger King the BK Lounge. Was there some cultural thing I don't remember for people to do that? A movie, a song a commercial?
  12. I think if it goes downtown, Norfolk shouldn't get too "grandiose" with their vision. Keep it simple. An arena with ample parking and perhaps an adjacent hotel/commercial/conference area. They don't need some big "entertainment district" with a Ferris wheel, wave park, amphitheater, roller coasters, etc.
  13. Downtown. Best location. Could be a positive catalyst for downtown going forward like MacArthur Center and light rail were/have been. I still don't think there could be a professional (major league) tenant but concerts/shows/NCAA basketball/Sun Belt basketball tournament, etc. would be great. With all the apartment development under construction, the large linear park (proposed) area and dare say I a casino (possibly) in the area it could really be great. I've never been a fan of moving arenas/stadiums out of downtown areas.

  15. Could this underground transit center be a future stop for an underground Silver LRT Line?
  16. Doesn't Mr. Tepper have enough money to pay for decent turf? My team used to be Washington and I remember complaints about their turf a lot. They probably haven't fixed it. Edit: Sorry, I thought their turf was natural grass.

  18. Could this spur development across the street (Brooklyn Village Ave) of the second Honeywell tower or other development?
  19. Tunneling the Silver Line under uptown (or at least a part of it) seems to be the best option. Charlotte needs to think about this as a 100 year investment and not add unnecessary complication to the existing traffic/street pattern. Tunnel under the airport property also to get a station at the airport.
