  1. I believe they’re a part of the Grand Bohemian’s art collection (thus the depiction of indigenous people retrieving water).
  2. After seeing the early studies that were prepared for renovating the Bowater building, I have some anxiety about this move. They had proposed orienting City Hall towards Falls Park and completely turning their back on the Camperdown/Falls Street Intersection. I think this would be a huge mistake for an emerging node within downtown. Hopefully their plans have evolved and will properly bring life to all sides of the building. I also hope they remove the monument sign from Falls Street sidewalk. The City should never have allowed that signage in the first place. Overall the building needs pressure washing, and more transparent glass. Otherwise, it's a stately building that looks the part for a city government building on the exterior. As for the renovation of the current City Hall: I like the premise of the redevelopment. I think they need to add balconies to the condos. They're going to have a difficult time competing with other for-sale units without appropriate public and private outdoor space as an amenity for the residents.
  3. Wow- that’s great attendance! You could definitely tell that downtown this weekend (in addition to all of the other things going on). As long as the gamecocks maintain their superiority in the sport (this pains me to say as a Clemson grad), Greenville is well positioned to be the host city. From what I saw on the streets, LSU and Tennessee both showed up in good numbers. Greenville definitely shined, and the good weather was icing on the cake!
  4. I hope it looks better than the Sumerel building. That’s one of the ugliest selections of materials.
  5. Not the most beautiful thing I’ve seen. Eek.
  6. Happy to say that they've FINALLY erected the first components of the second floor framing. Hopefully they've resolved whatever issue (supply chain, plan issues, etc?) the future floors will go more quickly.
  7. Well, that’s a little disappointing for those of us hoping for retail.
  8. I don’t, but I imagine it’s a typical repositioning of an office building that boils down to the simple refurbishing of common spaces (corridors, bathrooms, lobby, etc). I would be shocked if they do anything drastic.
  9. I’m not sure I understand this particular location for this concept. But, I hope it’s successful.
  10. Indeed. I think the City will absolutely see benefits from the nodes and corridors strategy. In a way, we are already seeing the benefits, just without an official named policy on the books. The green line of the Swamp Rabbit Trail alone is going to be a big player in adding further density and tax dollars to the City.
  11. Thanks for sharing! This is going to be a really nice upgrade. I hope this public investment generates additional private interest in redevelopment opportunities (AT&T block, Landmark parking garage).
  12. Thanks for the comprehensive look at the topic of annexation in our state peer cities, @vicupstate. Very informative and interesting!
  13. Yes- soldiers stationed at Fort Jackson would be counted. Here’s why I found online about their numbers: More than 3,500 active duty Soldiers and their 12,000 Family members are assigned to the installation and make this area their home. About one third of those live in on-post housing.
  14. I walked up there soon after it was unveiled. There was nobody around, but I have also seen most of the chairs taken up on occasion. I imagine that it depends on the time of day and whatever schedule the Rescue Mission keeps?
  15. While running on the SRT this afternoon, I saw that they’re in full demolition mode of the single-story former mill (?) building just past Swamp Rabbit grocery. This seems like a real shame. I believe this is the county’s jurisdiction? This building could have found a really cool re-use. Does anyone know of plans for this site?
  16. I think you're spot on here. One advantage that this development will have over other suburban options will be the residential population (which might be why we are seeing such heavy concentration of food/beverage options). Abandoning the mixed-use components of Magnolia Park was such an unfortunate error.
  17. $50 million investment, 45 new jobs by GE Appliances for a distribution center. https://www.einnews.com/pr_news/614802265/ge-appliances-expanding-south-carolina-operations-with-planned-distribution-center-in-greenville
  18. Big surprise that this comment is coming from the person that thinks anyone riding a motorcycle has no business being downtown. Not everyone shopping downtown is looking for the new Lilly dress. I think there's current businesses that will find synergies with this new lease. It stands to also attract additional shoppers and money downtown. APB has seemingly found success on West North Street with a similar line of goods.
  19. I'm impressed that they're using Camperdown at their second location. I certainly hope they're successful, and I'm happy to see more retail in the plaza-facing storefronts.
  20. I'm excited about what he's planning with Table 301!
  21. https://gvltoday.6amcity.com/skydrive-greenville-downtown-airport Does anyone think this comes to reality?
  22. The path looks great, as does the landscaping. It also looks like it could be a lot of fun with the right kind of transportation! Granted, I think I would break something on rollerblades.
  23. Ahem. Like I said, it’s been a quiet site for a long while. This is giving me flashbacks of the Peacock. Soon, we will have a second version of the awful 98 East McBee.
  24. Well, it's a balancing of interests, right? Anyone can also apply for a variance. It may be an uphill battle and will vary for each ask, but it's not impossible. This document, if adopted, simply lays out what you can build "by right". It also provides the City the legal foundation upon which to stand.
  25. The opportunity to provide input and have your voice heard has been ongoing for the past couple of years. Developers were very involved in the public meetings. To say that their voices were not heard would be false.
