  1. You're not seeing the delays because you're not hyper tuned in and focused on it. For all you know, many of those tower cranes were delayed 2 years. You're getting instant satisfaction simply because they're up and visible NOW. Oh, hmm -- DELAYS: https://atlanta.urbanize.city/post/no2-opus-place-midtown-skyscraper-project-development-lands-40m-financing
  2. I see. What you really want is a Haussmann-style intervention (which would be great, but incredibly unrealistic). The problem is ownership, right? The best that the city can do is create a masterplan and try to lead developers to a single vision. We ARE seeing this entire area being remade, it's just not the immediate satisfaction that you'd like. This area absolutely has developers' attention.
  3. This is happening currently thanks to the Swamp Rabbit Trail investment.

    The West End

Slow is good in promoting a walkable environment. Additionally, the reworking of the road network through County Square should help get people off of Augusta. I'm not worried about traffic, personally.
  5. The expansion of The Commons has started. The demolition is underway, removing the existing building skin.
  6. Last week, a County employee told me that their updated move-in date is about a month out now. I wonder if that factored in this particular delay? I'm not sure how up-to-date their information was...
  7. “Because it was ugly” yes, you’re an expert.
  8. No, no— explain the cost differential of through-wall mechanical units and a condenser farm on the roof. You’re the expert, and this is one of your hang ups.

    The West End

This has been in the works (or rumored and dreamed about by leaders) for years. It’s great to see the wheels finally turning. I’d love to see some height closer to Field Street.
  10. It's always "at no additional cost".
  11. For the record, the folks of Delaware are more excited about broad access to South Carolina than the other way around, right?
  12. I hate to see this one. While I have never walked in their store or made a purchase, I have always appreciated their storefront displays as being pleasant to look at.
  13. The way the conversation is framed today seems misleading. I don’t know that this is really the core issue. How has this only become a problem of the last 20 years? Columbia has prospered before. Taxes can be cited, but it really seems to be a result of poor planning and management.
  14. Just to be clear: I think we are on the same page. I’m pointing out that their complaining will have no basis once it starts.
  15. The building cladding and windows are the same. A lot of complaints about the McClaren ultimately comes down to these when you get to the root of the moaning and groaning on here, IMO. But if you’re happy, then that’s great.
  16. I’m confused. The last building of similar material and design is one that most of you all absolutely hate — The McClaren. Why the haste? Perhaps the board has learned a lesson? Idk, but maybe.
  17. The backside, or the view you see entering downtown from 385, absolutely has too many things going on. I’m happy that the board is making a statement on this building.
  18. They could start demo and site work if their ducks are in a row. It will probably take several months to complete drawings and get pricing. Following that, they submit for permit. At the earliest, I imagine it would be this fall for building construction to begin.
  19. Ah, thanks! I suppose it says that in the PDF somewhere. I don't know if anyone else is having trouble with the PDF on their phone. It reloads after scrolling past a certain point and starts back at page 1. This will be a good density builder.
  20. I like the design and like what it will help create in the Pettigru area. However, I don't immediately understand why they're leaving the western side of the lot open. I get that the terrain is probably tough, and the need for ingress and egress off of McDaniel. However, it would seem that a little creativity would fit some additional units up against McBee in order to continue the street wall.
  21. Thanks for posting these. It's great to see Monaghan Mill on the docket. From a brief search, it looks like the building has 190 units. I wonder what sort of strategic opportunities Woodlawn potentially opens up?
  22. I believe these are just lighting examples for the lighting package, not the proposed art.
  23. Depends on materials. If they had chosen to go with a more “standard” exterior materials, then they’d probably be complete by now.
  24. This is a nice location. Hopefully they're proposing something as nice as McBee Park across the street.
  25. Wow -- Greenville and Spartanburg counties' numbers are eye popping. I expected a decent amount of growth, but that was setting my expectations at 10,000 for Greenville and 7,000 for Spartanburg. Horry is still something I just don't comprehend.
