  1. i talking about the technology more so than the actual vehicle used. I do think the blue line models are to heavy but as others have pointed out their are smaller versions that can serve both purposes
  2. ^^ LRT can run on the same tracks as the streetcar & vice versa. With the upgrades in the LRT/Tram technology it's possible to have custom made cars that could mix in traffic & run in dedicated space outside of Uptown
  3. I might be wrong but couldn't the shows the Actor's Theatre put on be staged in the refurbished Carolina Theatre or the neighborhood theater in NoDa
  4. Poplar Tent was exploding long before I 485& you can make a strong argument that this growth would occur even without 485. Quick access to I-85, Concord Mills,The City along with low taxes, good schools are attractive to many& that's OK
  5. Eaton Centre or Copley Place in Boston would be cool here& the latter just happens to be owned by Simon
  6. ^^you might be waiting for long time. When the Hornets grabbed Batum & Lamb that pretty much signaled a big or trade down. Batum is a proven two way player who can create & more importantly shoot from range. Kamisky has a far better skill set than many are giving him credit for. He has legit 3 point range, a solid post game & can put it on the floor. I'm not saying he will be great but I understand the pick given the other moves the Hornets made
  7. we will find out soon I guess. I'm very familiar with the grocery business in general & a full size store there is problematic especially if it includes a pharmacy but Publix has a good track record so I won't say it couldn't work.
  8. that would be nice for Uptown but Publix will have a hard time turning a profit at this location in the short term
  9. . Not if the reports are true about them placing a small urban store in this location since it will only be 2,000 sq ft bigger than HT. If anything Whole Foods will rule Uptown with it's full fledged store.
  10. ^^a full size HT uptown is not likely. Grocery retailers have a small margin of profit & therefore sales per sq ft come into play in where they locate. Plus HT already has several full fledged stores in surronding neighborhoods that many Uptown residents can use
  11. Electrolux is waiting to get clearance to buy GE's appliance division which is based in Louisville, so it's a matter of how many more jobs end up at URP & has little or nothing to do with GE's main business
  12. ^^^CMC & the upper level admistration of UNCC & UNC support the expansion of the current 2 yr school once funding is put in place. Their version would have students spend the first 2 yrs on UNCC's main campus & last 2 at CMC main. The other difference us that CMC supports the branch concept of UNC school of medicine while the plan presented today has the Charlotte school eventually becoming independent . Without CMC's support a full medical school is unlikely
  13. The land is approaching 4 million per acre & I have to think whomever wins this has got to do more than just apartments & "some retail"
  14. True but the additional volume on NS mainline in & out airport could have a negative impact on the intermodal yard . This is a growing segment & Charlotte is expected to play a major role as a hub in the southeast. The ability to quickly transfer from rail to truck along with easy highway access is the major selling point for this facility
  15. ^^^It's doubtful that the City or NS would be in favor of moving all the rail operations to the airport. The airport plans to develop the land it owns around the intermodal yard into a logistics hub & the goal is to move goods as fast & efficient as possible
  16. Keep in mind that the city is taking on full responsibility for the Gold Line & fares will make up a large percentage of the operational budget plus you don't pay less to ride the Blue Line from South end to Uptown which can be shorter than phase 2
  17. ^^^No general purpose lanes can be added without compensation to Cintra if it will negatively impact them. Either way this is a opportunity for the Lake community to embrace other forms of transit IMO
  18. Mom &Pop boutique style stores can't survive Uptown without a true retail magnets. Developers are paying 2-4 million per acre & that makes it a challege for small independent retailors.
  19. Macy's just announced the formation of a outlet concept called Macy's Backstage in NYC. These stores are in the 30,000 sg ft range & Crescent just happens to have such a space. Either way I do feel Uptown/SouthEnd can support concepts like this along with boutique type retailers. Uptown doesn't have to try to compete with Southpark but instead could complement it while the outlet centers like Concord Mills & Premium Outlets are more than far enough away so as not to compete directly with them
  20. The Prosperity Rd interchange has a service rd in both directions connected to round abouts that connect to secondary streets. So traffic in theory shouldn't get stuck like say the brookshire rd exit.
  21. ^^ A six hour round-trip is a non starter for me plus it would take atleast one tank of gas& this flight departs & arrives during rush hour+ if anything goes haywire you might end up in a hotel for a night. 200 dollars isn't worth it for me.
  22. ^^Hot lanes will also feed into belk when I-77 south is redone sometime after 2025
  23. ^^^NC doesn't have it's house in order nor do our ports have the type of infracture that Savannah or Charleston have. This is not totally bad news since Charlotte is close to both ports & there will be some spill over benefit to other areas. Charleston would increase the possibility Charlotte landing the North American HQ
  24. As much harm as 277 did to urban neighborhoods it has become a vital component to linking 77,85 & Independence. It's complete removal might do as much harm & would hinder movement in & out of uptown. We might not see retailers like Whole Foods without the access that 277 gives.
  25. . I think this land has been in the works for a while & I think it's the space the airport was pitching to Boeing . Either way it is at least 350 acres
