  1. . And the I-77 corporate center off the Clanton road exit is being sold as a potential redevelopment property(40 acres or so)
  2. Ferguson opens up 8,000 + the engineering firm is looking to leave & that opens up 15,000 sq ft. That's enough space for a Urban Outfitters & Old Navy type retailer. My guess is they have a multi phase plan that removes most of the current parking lot.
  3. This is a huge win for urban centric retail & like others my wife is super excited about this store. Birkdale is her favorite shopping center but I can see SouthEnd/Uptown moving up that list as more retail stores like Anthropologie move in to complement the independent retail scene already there. You just can't best the ability to walk, train hop, etc
  4. The good news is that this is a Senate proposal & doesn't appear to have much traction in the General Assembly. The problem I continue to have with the state is the inability for urban counties to continue to prosper. Urban counties should be allowed to expand the sales tax to more services. The state could then give a portion of that revenue to poor counties while the county could keep all it's local sales tax revenue .
  5. I think some are a little confused about the shortfall. It is caused by the jacked up revaluations & by the state eliminating the business privelage tax without any concrete way to replace that revenue stream. Their also a proposal to shift some of the tax revenue from urban to rural counties. This might knock another 20 million out of the city/county budget
  6. I would also add that these incidents happen at non CIAA sponsored functions. A lot of parties are held by outside promotors looking to make some easy cash. In the past they have booked huge blocks of hotel rooms & overcharged people.
  7. Most people who attend the CIAA are there to have a good time. I've been attending the event for over 20 yrs. A couple of incidents don't detract from the event when you think.of how many people are Uptown to attend various functions
  8. . I agree that large scale retail is more than doable uptown, my comment about the CCCP was directed at they can only work with what's currently available in terms of space while also pushing the private sector to build a large scale development. They don't have the resources to actually develop a large scale project
  9. . His job is to work with what's available . Any large scale retail is out of the CCCP's range
  10. Any mixed-use lifestyle retail center is unlikely in the n tryon corridor . The observer building on the other hand is a prime candidate IMO
  11. ^^^ but they all run every 30 minutes or so & make multiple stops. I'm talking about a limited stop service connecting uptown/southend to the mall. You could have stops at park road shopping center & a couple of other places along the way
  12. The most realistic option for SouthPark would be to add a true shuttle service from the blue line. Something that connects from the scaleybark station could work. It would need to run every 10 minutes or so
  13. This is how you do TOD. Both Crescent projects could be the catalyst for major retail returning Uptown & this will be a people magnet by it's self
  14. 47,000 sg ft is definitely huge, maybe it includes the bar/restaurant . Or maybe this will be WF flagship Charlotte store
  15. . And the bar/restaurant should be a nice place to relax, mingle & people watch
  16. ^^completely agree. Whole Foods wants to have access to as many affluent customers as possible.
  17. Seems like the former spot for Whole Foods would have been perfect for Southern Season even though they appear headed for Southpark. Maybe Publix ends up there
  18. ^^guess we'll have to wait for the official announcement but sounds like they are building a flag ship level store. If so does Crescent add retail to other latter phases?
  19. ^^^I doubt Publix is looking to build a 40,000 plus sq ft store, especially with their SouthEnd location fairly close . Their Uptown store will be more like the Teeter in 4th ward.
  20. I always thought a full service grocer like Whole Foods made the most sense Uptown & this location is not only convenient to hoods close to Uptown but the freeway access could attract a wider range demo that might not want to drive to south Charlotte or Lake Norman
  21. The only problem I have with the AJC article is the advantage of rail access. While it would certainly be nice, CLT is within 30 minutes or less of all major population & employment centers in the region .
  22. ^^IMO it's not a matter of whether it will work because it can, the real question is whether you can convince the feds to invest 50% of the cost . The durham-orange line is far from certain & might get axed if it approaches the 2 billion mark like I expect it to
  23. ^^it's not that millennials don't own cars, they just prefer to use them occasionally if possible. I have 4 kids & my 2 youngest didn't get their drivers license until they were over 18, both own used cars that mostly sit at home or in a college dorm parking lot
