  1. I wish they could just lease the rest of 300 ST. It seems like it would make more sense to just consolidate MetLife's (and Babson's) Charlotte employees in one building.
  2. As I grew up in early 80s London, let me say Battersea is not what it is like today. People are paying thousands to live inside Battersea, when it's completely redeveloped. But on the upside, at least it's saving a historic building. We could learn a lesson from that. EDIT- Well, I grew up just outside of London.
  3. Ugh, cutting down more tress and nature. Just leave it the way it is, I love walking through all the forest along the Catawba.
  4. http://www.ajc.com/news/news/local-govt-politics/atlanta-city-council-bring-2017-nba-all-star-game-/nqt3Y/ Atlanta City Council is trying to lobby the NBA to move the All Stars Game from CLT to Atlanta, because of House Bill 2!
  5. I'm pretty sure I read that document back in January, when it was created. I also like that this is one of the few CATS document that seems a bit more official, modern, and neat. My preferred route is C-C-A-A-C, then from Stonewall go towards the Airport, though I wouldn't care if the Silver Line (which should be renamed, for consistency, to primary colors, yes I'm that pedantic) goes to Gateway or not.
  6. Another crane to add to Crane City! http://www.charlotteobserver.com/news/business/biz-columns-blogs/development/article68290587.html
  7. I'd happily pay tax to get more transit here in CLT. I think that most of CLT and Meck, besides the South Charlotte wedge, supports transit. But we do need a clear transit plan that CATS can actually build out. Moving on, seeing as that the Smart Cards are on the agenda for the council today, I was thinking 'What should we call it?' and I thought we should name the card system after something that is "Charlotte", like the Gold Rush, craft beer or banking. So any suggestions for what we should call our Smart Card system?
  8. Sorry to be this person, but can somewhere explain to me, what the difference between CSA and MSA are, and why we might not be a CSA anymore?
  9. Hows that circular map coming along?
  10. I'm still having a hard time envisioning actual light rail (like the Blue Line) running through Uptown for the Silver Line, without using tunnels. Many streets either can't be closed (like Trade) or seem too narrow (5th). It seems to me that it will likely see streetcar-style service with stops in dedicated lanes rather than large RoW like the Blue Line. At the meeting, did CATS touch on how they were planning to route the Silver Line into Uptown?
  11. How would it work along 5th? While I haven't gone down 5th in ages, Google makes it look very narrow, so would it work as a mixed traffic streetcar, dedicated streetcar with stops like the Gold Line or dedicated light rail with stations like the Blue Line?
  12. 1) The Siemens S70 Streetcar and LRV versions are so similar, that any differences are minimal 2) Scheduling the Silver Line at different times to the Gold Line would resolve this problem. 3) Go down Graham/Mint to Morehead 4) How do you propose we route the Silver Line through Uptown?
  13. You are correct, I assume that if the Silver Line shares the tracks on Trade, that we would use the Siemens S70 Streetcar version instead- which is lighter and shorter than the LRV version used on the Blue Line.
  14. Well, irrelevant of Dale's posts, I think they is a certain positive consequence to all this mess with LGBT issues here in NC: Surely all this attention has shown that Charlotte is a forward-thinking city that cares about being a modern 21st century city that prohibits discrimination, but we have been held back by the state and thats not our fault. Anyone else think that?
  15. /\ I second that comment, tozmervo! I can't wait for Phase 2, it can't come quick enough.
  16. http://www.seattlepi.com/local/transportation/article/Sound-Transit-releases-draft-25-year-transit-7044751.php Why can't we have a clear and realistic transit plan like Seattle?
  17. Not that it means much, but I've been hearing a lot more about AS starting CLT recently.
  18. I'm shocked and saddened by Dale's post, if I'm reading it correctly. EDIT- Silicon Dogwoods and I posted at the same time, I meant Dale's post.
  19. Wait, so we aren't getting high speed rail like the Acela Express?
  20. Does anyone have any updates on the streetcar manufacturer tender? When should we find out the supplier?
  21. Note to self, never read the comment section of the Observer or Business Journal.
  22. What can we do about House Bill 2? Not a lot, I just hope that NC gets dragged into a lengthy legal battle involving the Supreme Court.
  23. That is where I will personally disagree with both of you. I think it is wrong that we don't do it, we have one set of reactions for Westernised-countries and one for non-Western countries, just because they are not like America- that is wrong.
  24. I like the idea of the Stonewall alignment, could you image LRT going past Crescent Stonewall, Tryon Place, DEC and BoA? I just have a hard time working out where the tracks and station would go along Stonewall, with all the development in the way.
  25. Don't get me wrong, I love how we light up our city with the French or Belgian flag when terrorist attacks happen in those countries, but why didn't we do it for Turkey? Cote d'Ivoire?
