I haven't been logging on as much but what is this?

"a.      Lewis-Cole Plaza, Central Business Park; construction of Head Start building  *"

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Nothing big. Hoobo stated what it was in the post directly above mine.

"#5 probably relates to Pres. Bush's Head Start initiative. Might be a learning center or a Dept. of Ed. office."

Well where is it? I have never heard of the aforementioned plaza either... and by the way what is the Central Business Park?

The Central Business Park is a new office/warehouse development (aka "flex" park) on Sewell's Point Road near the intersection with Tidewater Drive adjacent to I-64. Basically, it's in the heart of Norfolk near Southern Shopping Center. Correct me if I'm wrong, but a couple years back Wal-mart was looking at building a Supercenter there, but backed out opting instead to expand its JANAF location.

No it's still a go. Earlier this year (Feb or March I think) the city announced some businesses were moving to make way for the Wal-Mart plus the city was relocating some police staff and offices temporarily to the former TWA airlines call center at Lake Wright in preparation for construction. The Wal-Mart is to start late this year.

I heard this too. They are knocking down the police station and relocating them to the old TWA building on Military Hwy. That will be some of the permanet locations for the police dept. They plan on renovating that whole area including Texas Ave. area. Trying or already has a hotel to plant in that general area by the interstate and Tidewater Dr.

Funny

I was thinking of Grandy Park and Diggs Park too when I saw the renderings in the paper!! The city has tried to clean the projects up... even giving them new surnames (Grandy Village, Diggs Town), but they will always be the PARKS... Young Park, Tidewater Park, and Calvert Park might be in trouble given their proximity to Downtown.

Looks like we have another mixed use development coming downtown. Stay tuned.

"OSWALD HOFFLER, JR., for the following applications:

1. To amend The General Plan of Norfolk, 1992 depicts from commercial/office to mixed uses

2. To change the zoning from I-1 (Limited Industrial) District to D-2 (Downtown Regional) District on property located on the northeast corner of Tulip Lane and Posey Lane; property fronts 264 feet, more or less, along the northern line of Tulip Lane and 42 feet, more or less, along the eastern line of Posey Lane; property also fronts 228, more or less, along the southern line of Brambleton Avenue; premises numbered 549 Brambleton Avenue; The purpose of the rezoning is to facilitate a mixed use development"

Oswald Hoffler wouldn't be related to armada hoffler would he?

Below is a map of where the project is to be located.

Oh it's current. This was on their june 23rd agenda and was most likely passed by consent though i still need to find the minutes to confirm. Planning Commission View item #7 under regular agenda. We probably won't know too much till this goes to the design review committee. Note they said mixed use not condo so that could be condo/retail, Condo/office, hotel/retail, etc.

what do you think it means??? Low rise buildings or something??

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Well if you look at the map it's located quite near the radisson (i think thats it's name) and a block or two from downtown plaza. I don't think were looking at a Granby tower but probably more like a mid to highrise like that 18-20 story they have planned for Bute street.

Remember that Fraim said in the last article that several major developments were already in the planning stages so stuff like this will probably trickle out all summer.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

:D I hope it continues and I hope sometime within the coming months big news about DT Plaza will come out. I'm not looking for a Burj Dubai outta this lot, but maybe at least 15-25 story and some mixed-use retail/commercial and apartments.

They (the board) also meet on the 4th Thursday of each month----Tomorrow :)

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

It also states that the board is the developer of several projects in norfolk, perhaps they're the developer of this one? It'll be interesting to learn more about this.
