well this interesting but doubtful it will happen this year but the threat of VA casinos all lined up close to the state line as people in NC concerned.

In another article I have heard rural counties mentioned like Anson County.

this is evidently a lot further along than many people may know.  Casinos in NC in 3 distressed counties maybe Anson County (which is one of the poorest in the state)  and a 4th one for the Lumbees whether they get Federal recognition or not.

I have always thought the Lumbees should have a high rise casino at the junction of I-95 and I-74 US74.   Again Robeson County is one of the poorest in the state.

But no others as Catawbas have theirs in Kings Mountain and the Cherokees in Cherokee and Murphy.

Nope not a federally recognized tribe. Trump largely won NC bc he promised Lumbee federal recognition the day before the 2020 election.

Yes Tillis & his staff along with Trump have lied about that federal recognition to those people so much that's it's borderline comical at this point.

If you spend any time in Columbus, Scotland, Richmond, or Roberson counties you'll notice how abject impoverished and the lack of legit information sources are available to the overwhelmingly non-white population  in those areas.

Tribal troubles with the casino tonight from the Biz Journal

""The new Catawba Nation chief has taken negotiations public as he attempts to split from the developer of the Catawba Two Kings Casino.

The Catawba Nation put out a news release today saying that Chief Brian Harris is calling for Wallace Cheves' Sky Boat Gaming to accept a "fair exit deal" to pave the way for the development of the casino. The construction of the full casino resort has been on hold due to scrutiny from the National Indian Gaming Commission, which said in December that the project violates federal law.

The Catawbas announced today that the NIGC "cited the ground lease for the trust lands and other agreements that gave Sky Boat too much ownership control and management authority over the casino project." The permanent casino could not be developed until those issues are resolved, the Catawbas said. The Catawba Two Kings Casino has operated its "pre-launch facility" since 2021 at the 17-acre casino site off Exit 5 from Interstate 85.""
