That must be why the massive site prep. I have pictures but from the ground no way to capture the scope. They are sinking square concrete pilings everywhere which I suppose is to discover bed rock, or they want to incorporate a few henges in the design. And big mounds of dirt which I guess is for sinkhole repair.

If someone can find a satellite image, only way unless the airport takes their own aerial photograph.

Wow.  They approved the new south terminal.

So, by 2017 the train station should be up and running, and during this time overall sitework and construction should be well underway on the terminal which may open by 2019.

Last night I went to OIA:

1.  The new interchange at 417 & Boggy Creek-  It is huge.  still u/c.  wow.  If you try to get to OIA from 417 when this opens you won't recognize the place.

2.  OIA Intermodal.-- there's a few cranes up down there.  big construction going on that I could tell (at night).

OIA in for a record year. Of Course I have to get into a heated argument with somebody on the comments section. It's amazing how the people that have an agenda against anything and everything will lie. They are completely brainwashed and narrow minded. They try to quote stats that they think support their opinion and then jump to subjective irrational conclusions when they are proven wrong. Of Course I did get a little snippy and condescending.

Google Maps seem to have a lot of the new bridges and such now.

I know Osceloa Parkway wanted to have a connector to the 417 over here. Seems like a pretty big miss for this huge new interchange design to not have any route from that connector into the airport:

It seems like you'd get off on Boggy Creek, and take that into the airport. Not a direct shot, but not a dealbreaker?

I'm not sure if you've ever driven that route, but I have many times.

The trip from Osceola Parkway to Boggy Creek* & 417 on any given day can take almost 20-30 minutes to go those 3 miles.

*As a sidebar, my comment here:  http://www.urbanplanet.org/forums/topic/115621-the-yard-at-ivanhoe-mixed-use-proposed/?do=findComment&comment=1346596  has been partially fixed for this section of road!  The road signage from 192 to 417 has been corrected.  The section from the airport heading South is signed Boggy Creek Road and instead of turning right on Boggy Creek Road AGAIN, you turn on a properly signed Simpson Road and instead of turning right on Boggy Creek Road A THIRD TIME, you turn on a properly signed Fortune Road.  Maybe they had more people than me emailing them about this?

The problem of it being labeled 530 in 3 separate directions still exists.

Well, looks like after next month, OIA will pull the trigger on the South Terminal Expansion. Last month stats through October broke 38.011 million. This month, stats fresh off the press are now at 38.462 million through November. There is a VERY STRONG possibility next month when they get the numbers through December, we will shatter through the 38.5 million threshold to press forward.

December report is finally out. For the year of 2015, we had a new record at the airport. 38.8 million passengers!!!! That is an 8 percent increase in traffic over the previous year.

More importantly, we have finally crossed the airport threshold to begin construction on the South Terminal. The trigger was to pass 38.5 million.

I don't know how any of this works - does the volume in one month trigger the expansion, or does there need to be a number of months in a row with sustained traffic to signal that there's demand?

This is for the whole ball of wax. The most recent passenger counts were for 12 month rolling average, in fact it was for the calendar year 2015. I can tell you that the board did not expect to hit it this soon. I don't anticipate any decrease over the next six months with all the new domestic and international service. These numbers are through December. The 12 month rolling average will not decrease. By May, we will have met the 6 consecutive month requirement. By 3rd-4th quarter this year, we should have South Terminal Expansion plans in full gear.

http://www.orlandoairports.net/press/releases/20150522.htm

Board members also approved a revision of the previously set triggers for South Terminal construction. The previously established benchmarks were 40 Million Annual Passengers (MAP) and two million annual arriving international passengers for six consecutive months on a rolling 12-month basis. The international passenger threshold has already been met and the annual passenger total was revised to 38.5 million.

I think the expansion South to Osceola Parkway is in the Long Range Planning documents for Osceola County.  I know I saw them once upon a time.

Yes, this is the site for it. They actually have developed preliminary plans this past year and chose a route for the first segment past Narcossee. The decision to build or not build is supposed to be made mid year and then ROW acquition could start. Since some of the route is through communitys that are under construction (Lake Nona/Eagles Creek), I imagine if they approve it, they'll want to get some of that before homes are built.

This is the first phase of the 417 connection: http://www.osceola-parkway.com/docs/Alternative_C_1_04_2015.pdf

This flyover project didn't seem to make provisions for Osceola Parkway so hopefully it won't be too bad. If this gets built, it would require exiting on Boggy Creek and then getting back onto the new roadway they built, no direct ramp (or highway extension) is proposed in the initial phase. The ramp placement looks like it would make it hard to just have the highway continue without having to move a lot of what they just built :-/
