From the archives, we have this shot of construction workers taking a lunch break on the new Commerce Union Bank Building at the corner of Fifth and Union.  The concrete was poured into ribbed forms then the ribs were chiseled off to give a natural rock appearance.  September, 1976.

In May of 1977, when the new tower was completed, movers emptied the old bank building at Fourth and Union.  After the move the old structure was demolished and a Radisson Hotel was built on the site.

Commerce Union became Sovran, then NationsBank, then Bank of America.  Now the building bears the name Philips.
