Actually, what am I saying? As marketing director for GFT it absolutely is Gary L. Tilkin who is behind this development. He hopes to model it after our office located in Canary Wharf. Quite a nice development and it would complement our other offices worldwide.

:)

director of marketing huh.... well, I know of this guy who graduated and is looking for a job.... he happens to have a degree in both international business and marketing sooooooo....

Channel 8 announced that of the ten local companies, at least 3 are general contractors and 2 are architects. I know who one of the generals is and it is not one of the "big guys in town". They are a $50 million +/- a year company. As far as the others, I guess we just have to wait a couple more hours to find out. What does local mean anyway? GR, West Michigan, Michigan?

 he's kidding. It's a press conference, it's free.

WAYYY OFF Topic!

I am very happy to see that I am not the only Dave Ramsey Fan in here! Until the local station changed frequencies, I use to listen to him every day! :D

Now I just need to find an FPU class for the fianc

Who is this $50 Million Dollar General? C.D. Barnes Associates maybe? Dan Vos?

I'm curious....

And, who would everyone consider to be the top 10 general contractors in town?

The GRBJ book of lists top ten (Revenue 2004 in millions):

1. Rockford $216

2. OAK 190

3. Pioneer 132

4. Skanska 120

5. Triangle 106

5. Wolverine 106

7. Christman 87

8. Miller-Davis 60

9. Erhardt 53

10. Elzinga & Volkers 52

CD Barnes is listed as doing $41M and Dan Vos at $39M

The list is a little skewed. OAK's $190 is for all 3 offices including Florida while Skanksa's is only for the West Michigan Office and Christmans $87 is only for GR not for Lansing.

It is supposed to be West Michigan revenue, but I think companies are free to report what ever they like.

What about Visser?

Visser Brothers $36 Million

My company has a great relationship with C.D. Barnes and they said they did $47 Million last year.

But yes, it's my understanding that the book of lists is based soley on what these companies provide. They don't do any real checks to confirm....make sure everyone reports back with thoughts after the 'big announcement'!

Such talent....

But I'm sure Duane's just snowed all these folks, too.

After all, he's never done anything this big so he couldn't possibly be capable.

By the way, which of these local firms has ever done anything this big? Who's going to be the first to question their abilities?

The GRBJ February 13 issue had an updated list for 2005 numbers:

Rockford $284

OAK $192

Skanska $150

Pioneer $140

Wolverine $108

Triangle $100

Christman $ 91

CSM $ 80

Lamar $ 53

etc, etc.......

The survey asked specifically for "West Michigan" numbers, defined as Allegan, Kent, Ottawa and Muskegon counties only.

I will reserve my judgment until I can see the face of the owner of these 10 local companies. Just kidding.

Good list.

Although I'm disappointed about Hanon-McKendry not being on the list. I bet they could give Faust a killer slogan along the lines of "Keep it a secret" to inspire even more confidence in this project.

"RiverGrand - Will we build it?"

I'll join that emotion. Read the Faust interview in the Press (nice job Chris Knape). The project is a speculative development that actually suggests an 11,000 square mile trade area with 4 million customers and includes 2,000 residential units, offices, hotels, movie theaters, etc. that will be built out in 5-7 years. The market will cannot support the scale.

Duane, I shop in Chicago because I love Chicago. There is very little there that I can't buy here already.

Maybe Duane's gonna build something that you'll love right here. And then you'll shop in Chicago a little less often.

The market wouldn't support it currently because it doesn't exist currently....if you follow that circuitous reasoning. Something this big really does turn into an "if you build it, they will come" scenario.

You may not buy that, but that's the reasoning behind it.
