RATZ!!!

I've got to go thru that time-change routine again. I always forget how to do it and may have to prevail upon Neo once more.

This time posting reads 4:57PM and it's really 5:57PM.

Grrrrrr. I don't know why this is such an ordeal for me!

I enjoyed your fair city today.. I couldn't convince them to drive down Monument Ave, but we walked down 5th street, Broad Street to 10th, Main St, then back to 5th. I must say.. I was impressed by the cleanliness of DT RIC and the overall vibe was pretty urban. The food at T. Millers? I think that's it.. Was really good. You all have a downtown area to be proud of. Strikingly similar to Philadelphia.

A belated thanks for the compliment varider. While the area you walked is still a work in progress, especially Grace St. and Broad, we have high hopes for it.

Edit: I obviously don't check off-topic enough. You did indeed request some restaurant advice! :) Penny Lane was also an option there. Next time you visit make the hike down to Main St. to try Bank or Cap Ale or maybe venture all the way down to the Slip for a plethora of options. Glad you enjoyed the visit and congrats to ODU. That was a tough game.

Hmmm... I'll probably be back sometime soon. My mother got from Center City Richmond, to downtown Norfolk in 70 minutes.

& last time I went to RIC my aunt took me to Shockoe Bottom I think it's called and I saw the cobble stone streets and the quaint little restaurants and then the canal walk with the little boat thingy.

Oh, one thing I can say that I am very envious of the set-up of your metro. I would love to have a single, big urban core with all the expressways, roads, etc. leading to the center or a major thoroughfare like Broad, etc. You guys are lucky to have this. I get so frustrated with the infighting we deal with in the southeastern part of the state. We can't agree on anything. I love Richmond, haha. I'll be checking in on your threads too.

&& I also feel like you guys deserve some form of urban rail transit. I could definately see a rail line going the length of Broad like the Broad street line in Philadelphia!

Yesterday, the Census Bureau released the population figures for all states, metropolitan areas, and counties through July 1, 2009 (in Virginia includes cities which are seperate from counties). Richmonds population from 2008-2009 has increased close to 2000 residents. For a city that cannot annex the surrounding counties (as all of Virginia) this is a good sign. Richmonds population now is 204,451. Hopefully we can see a boom in population and by 2020 see 300,000 residents. thumbsup.gif

The Richmond growth figures in these tables, Calwinston, are very encouraging. Seems to me I read just the other day that Richmond's Mayor expressed hope that the city's 2010 population would tip out at slightly above 200,000 in order to qualify for significant Federal funding. Let's hope the estimated current figures are more accurate than the Mayor's hopes.

And thanks to you, Cal, for posting them.thumbsup.gif

For all who want the pleasures of owning a boat but not the hassle of maintenance and leasing a boat slip should look into The Mariners Club at Rocketts Landing. They are building a small clubhouse down by the boat slips and hope to have 100 to 200 members. They are also leasing 5 boat slips from Rocketts Landing which is also a plus for that development.

Virginia Business Magazine profiles different regions of the state every month. Even though they profile the richmond region about every six months to eight months some parts of the article refers to economic development back in 2008. dontknow.gif But in this down economy their are some companies expanding and moving to the area!yahoo.gif

"Happy the Artist is at it again — up to 75 feet of it."

I remember when Happy came to my elementary school art class and helped us paint a mural on the wall. So of course I find this story and see he's still at it. This time he's painting a mural in Carytown!thumbsup.gif

Titled: Love Happy

The first four former Ukrops locations have completed their transitions to Martin's Grocer's and opened to the general public this morning. Let's see if Richmond and the surrounding areas warm up to Martin's. Or will many shoppers opt for the other many choices (i.e. Krogers, Whole Foods, Food Lion, Trader Joe's, The Market, etc.)

8-1/2 Restaurant/Takeout on Strawberry Street caught on Fire today around lunchtime, evidently had a grease fire in the back kitchen, not sure of the damage....interesting tidbit, because of the water pipe work in the area, there was not enough pressure at the hydrant for the fire hoses, they had to bring in extra trucks etc (4 total)

How long have they been working on the water pipes and is this near the Strawberry Street Cafe?

They have just begun working in this section of the Fan, 8-1/2 is right beside the Fan Video on Strawberry Street between Stuart and Park, they are reporting the fire started in the wall behind the kitchen hood/grille.

Cal, this is quite interesting. Thanks for posting. I think it is tied in with "an evening at Morton's" discussion group that meets periodically at Morton's the Steak House in Shockoe Slip.
