How does a bartender/manager afford to buy Dexter's? The building alone is valued over $1M. Genuinely curious...

I don't know him but GMs make good money at quality establishments. I'm sure there was also either an additional investor or he can always take out a loan.

I don't get the feeling he is the one putting up the money. I also don't think they bought the building. Greg still is likely the landlord.

I had heard an offer from other parties was made, and rejected, for $1.3 to include the building. In this deal, its my understanding is the building did not transfer. Brian does have a business partner, Matthew Niccoletti and I believe there are a few other behind the scenes investors.

The Sentinel’s take on the Dexter’s buyout suggests a new name but still recognizable to the folks in the neighborhood:

We’ll see.

The Orlando Weekly says "We had a chance to speak with the new owners of Dexter's in Thornton Park on Tuesday, who have some positive news to share. One of them, Brian Minkel, says he arrived at the restaurant to take possession of the keys on Monday, not expecting to find guests still inside being served. He did ask the people inside to clear out. Seems reasonable. "

Careful now.   The Vero majority has pockets.

Told the newest attempt at the old Spice space will be called Osphere and open in Jan. Neighborhood bar and grill idea still the plan.

I googled it and can't come up with any definition for the word so that is an interesting choice.

O-sphere?  Like Orlando Sphere?

Maybe?

So it looks like a beer place is opening right next to the bakery in Citi Tower. Snapped this pic and also saw a smaller sign that said “The Local Draught House”. Anyone know anything?

Yeah they announced a long time ago. It, just like WOB, is out of Tampa. Its effectively the exact same thing but in a worse spot.

It is interesting, given the parade of restaurants in that spot over the years (and even Lee’s was fading at the end), that WoB came in and worked pretty well from day one.

Great view, lots of beer, crappy food. Exactly what the clientele wanted.

They got the right price point for the area with a great outdoor area. Fine dining will never be that large again, you need a huge bar to pay the rent on 7k+ sqft.
