Well, my dream would be that the Casino's have a mega parking structure, and that there would be some sort of transit link between the people mover and parking. It would be oriented more towards visitors, which would help spare tearing down buildings around the stadiums or potentially vibrant areas. This is kind of what the MOA in Minneapolis did. They have a huge parking structure with light rail going downtown. Even if visiting the downtown is the only thing on people's agenda, it's possible they might go into the mall anyway since they are parked right by it.

Interesting idea, but now that each is under construction, that doesn't seem like it's an option, anymore.

BTW, I hear that the parking garage for MGM is going to be used by neighboring DTE Energy Plaza, as well, since it was their parking that was ate up. Can anyone confirm that? Also, I hear that a direct response to the MGM construction is that DTE will spruce up their downtown campus. I've even heard talks of reflecting ponds and streetscaping. I hope this is more than a rumor.

That's what I'd like to see too. It's hard for people who aren't familiar with downtown to know where all of the parking is, and which ones are the cheapest and safest, and I think people are intimidated and discouraged by that. A huge garage, especially someplace all of the metro will know about, like MGM, that was connected to the rest of the area by some good mass transit would be great.

This also sounds alot like Minneapolis' downtown skywalk system, which is said to be one of the most extensive in the world. It really does seem to cut down on that idea that every new development needs its own parking structure.

BTW, seeing as how well MGM's current parking structure is lit, I have no doubt in my mind that the brightest lit objects in downtown Detroit will be the casino's parking structures. lol MGM's will probably outshine the actual casino/hotel.

Oh! lol When I look back on it, it was a pretty silly question, as the structure of the skybridge has been in place, like you said, for a few months. I haven't been down that way in that time, but have seen the bridge in pictures.

Have you heard, however, about the rumored revitalization of the DTE Energy complex? It would be cool to hear or see what they've got planned.

The only part I know about is the part that you can see from the road: the elevated courtyard is being closed in as a cafeteria space, and the steel for that is already in place. I'll check and see what I can dig up.

Phew...after that long race to finally get some photos, I've finally arrived at the finish line with some! :)

As of Saturday, September 16, 2006

Motor City Casino - The yellow portion is the gaming space along Grand River Avenue.

North Facade - From the looks of the renderings, it appears that the rows have some sort of lighting (perhaps neon). I'm wondering if that would be added to the slots between each floor (in the gray portion).

The south facade is a bit further behind.

Thanks for the pictures. It looks like things are taking shape down there. :)

I especailly like the 8th and 10th pictures. After the building's done they should just place some cranes around town just to make things look cooler. We can pretend we're Hong Kong or something.

Thankyou so much for those pics Michi! FINALLY! LOL. Just Kidding. They were worth the wait. The MGM does look stumpy though. Wish they could have added about 10 more floors.

It might look stumpy, but there are plenty of areas where the skyline will be filled with a piece of the new MGM hotel. I was actually a bit shocked at how many places I can catch it from.

I was kind of thinking MotorCity currently looks alot more like the previous rendering than the recent one released, which looked more like a conceptualization that will look a lot different when completed.

Yeah, from my count, MGM still has 2-3 more floors, but it does look smaller than I thought it would.
