I like the third picture of MGM on the side bar. The tower doesnt look as stubby as usual. And did anyone notice that the sub-heading under the first picture is wrong and is supposed to be for Motorcity and not MGM.

I definitely noticed the caption on the first picture being wrong, when it comes to casino development news the newspapers always seem to make at least one obvious error. Other than that I like the way MGM Grand is coming up, we will have to just wait a few more months to see more of a finished project from the outside.

In my opinion if you look at the hotel from certain angles, taller will not be better, but in some cases yes, maybe up to 10 stories taller, but you really have to consider that they only have 400 hotel rooms, you can not get that much height with that.

Well, I don't usually place height at the top of my list when judging building (rarely ever), but this particular design does look stumpy and unfinished. The actual material make up of the structure is really nice. They really did good with the pre-cast concrete, and the silver-blue glass looks a lot more glass than the over-used and tacky gold glass. But, I think even a nother good, solid 4 floors in the middle part of the tower (or even just taller floors) would have been a huge improvement.

It could have been much worse, but that doesn't take away from the places where it does come up short, no pun intended. A good way to to show what I mean is that MotorCity has the exact same number of floors, but it manages to stretch the tower's main body 241 feet high, while MGM only manages to stretch its 17 floors to 185 feet. That a difference of 56' in height with the same floor count. That said, MGM pumped more money into the casino and parking structure. MotorCity already had a considerably larger parking garage, so I guess it may be comparing apples to oranges.

I'm really waiting to see Greektown, though.

Except for looking unfinished (I thought that it was unfinished, glancing at the photo), I think the tower part looks nice.

Maybe for the top, some kind of tall edging wall type thing could be put there. I think it would finish off the top good, and it would give the building a horizontal feel, so it wouldn't need to be tall.

I don't really like the base, but I think it would look nice if there were windows on it. I realize that casinos don't like those though.

But it's not done yet, so I haven't really had the chance to walk around it and really see.

Their current parking garage is like that, though. In fact, they've always advertised the parking garage with their casino which always made me laugh making clear note of the word "well-lit." lol I guess whatever it takes to get the suburban crowd that thinks they are going to get mugged walking right out the casino into the parking garage, huh?
