What everyone needs to realize, though, is that the design will go through some more subtle changes. Rossetti Associates told me some months back that the design would go through more subtle changes. None that have been released are the official, believe it or not.

Having worked in a commercial real estate related field for a few years now, I realize that the renderings are seldom what the finished building looks like. I just think it's interesting to watch the transformation of the "vision" over the planning, development and construction phases.

They usually start out grandiose and end up more plain because plainer is cheaper and quicker...and in the real world it all comes down to time and money.

I think in this instance plainer is better. The new design is a bit cleaner and I personally like that. I wouldnt mind either tower, but the base and parking structure of the original was really busy and they cleaned it up a bit.

Has the issue of what is going to happen to Trappers Ally been addressed yet? What sort of options would be available for the site of the greektown temp location? I mean it's a great building for reuse, but it seems like it's options would be limited.

It seems like a respectable place for an urban shopping destination--but we all know Detroit is not ready for that yet.

Just curoious what peoples thoughts were on this.

Construction, technically, has not started, yet, as they are still tearing down the municipal garage to make room for the new hotel and garage. That's probably still a month of so off before they start the excavating and foundation pouring and such, I'd think.

The Greektown is just one big happy demolition site. The old apartment building on the service drive hasn't been touched though, but the garage is just about completely rubble. YAY!

Nice find, Toog! I really like it. I kind of wish they could have reconfigured the casino to allow the hotel to rise above it, but that's not such a big deal to me. Greektown is easily the best looking and best configuered of the Detroit casinos, and I'm very please with what they are doing.

I guess Greektown won't be 33 stories. According to the article, it will be 22 stories. I don't really have a problem with this, but I still wish it could be 33 stories. After seeing the rendering, I figured it would not be 33 stories since the garage was next to the hotel and not under it.

Yah, no kidding! I really like the presence of MC Casino. It's quite a bit taller than I had originally imagined. It definately adds to the good urban surroundings in Greater Downtown Detroit.

I like the gaming space for GT Casino too, however 33 stories would have been much more stunning. I wonder what made them change their mind. I'm putting my bets on the zoning commission from the city.

Oh yah, the old apartment building at the GT site is an ugly heap of ugliness. It's still standing but should be gone soon.

The rendering does show the garage under the hotel as well as next to it, I think the complex will still be 33-35 stories, maybe the 22 stories only referred to the hotel itself, we will have to see...
