  1. i feel stupid for responding to sarcasm... must've been low on the coffee when I typed that. By the way, I like the little place on michigan avenue at brooklyn street for breakfast. Pretty simple little place, but it gets the job done and there is always a free newspaper laying around to read.
  2. i am embarrassed to say that today was my first time ever shopping at Eastern Market. What an amazing little area. If you haven't ever been down there, I HIGHLY recommend a visit. Very cool place and its only getting better.
  3. sooner than we imagine, i hope... the boys from URS are working hard to make it happen
  4. yup, TRU meeting indeed. It was kinda of an overview of transit in detroit. Probably nothing you didin't already know, Michi. the bigger news is that I went to the lafeyette instead of the american. This is a slight change from the normal routine of my typical downtown visit. My buddy got downtown first so it was his call. By the way, you're not a true detroiter until you use the bathroom downstairs in the basement of the Lafeyette. Its like climbing through the bowels of a ship... just slightly more smelly and scary.
  5. i will take your word(s) for it, still looks like a decent redevelopment
  6. Research Lofts Nice looking development that is opening very soon. I wouldn't mind living here, its right next to the CN, NS and CSX tracks. I'd be in heaven. http://www.researchlofts.com/
  7. the drill rig has moved to the middle of the site... progress
  8. they are still drilling the footings. For the last few days, they have had the drill rig on the corner at Michigan and Griswold with no real progress visible. Perhaps they are waiting for MIS DIG... lol.
  9. the lobby is surprisingly warm for a building like that. It is very inviting! I remember how it used to look before they cleaned the building a few years ago, I like it much better with the white finish. I'm also curious, from just playing with some of the rendering softwares, I know you can do all sorts of things with these renderings, how would the top section look with a different lighting scheme versus the sodium vapor lamps they use now? Is it easy to change the color of the lighting? If it takes any more than 1 minute, forget I ever said anything, it was just out of curiosity
  10. after careful consideration of the comments from you, my fellow urban planet peers, I have revised my stance on the whole valet thing. here is my analysis of why i didn't like valet: 1. It always seems to cause traffic snarls after tiger games (the tiger game part of that sentence is the key) 2. My main offender that I had in mind is Bleu. All others seem to do it right. Bleu has taken up the practice of parking car on the sidewalk in front of the broderick. If this is the worst of the problem, all you have to do is ticket the one offending establishment. As I look back at my analysis, what is really the problem with Valet? Answer, it screws up traffic flow, especially after ballgames. Well, what does that do then? What I see is that this could have a way to basically start encouraging people to do one of two things: a. hang out later after tiger games until traffic dies down (a good thing) b. park farther away from the stadium to avoid traffic and walk (a good thing) And what are the real effects of this awful valet, Mr. Ezord? Well... 1. it makes the city look vibrant with high end establishments that offer valet 2. it slows traffic down so, rather than deleting my previous post, I am changing my opinion. I was thinking too much on a traffic basis... forgive me, I'm just a sheltered little engineer.
  11. Great work as always... I really like 211 W Fort. Such a neat and clean building. Its funny how much I have grown to appreciate these type of buildings within the last 5 years or so...
  12. I saw an ad for this in Crains: http://www.twelve-25.com/ 1225 Woodward (located next to the Merchant's row buildings). I think this is the building that got tagged recently by some grafitti artists.
