Raleigh has its charms. The Farmers Market is many times larger, more diverse and interesting than our regional market. Dix Park has the potential to be a grand green space in the middle of the city. Pullen Park is already a pleasant space from the past. There are fine older neighborhoods and Oakwood cemetery is a great strolling and history location for this cemetery lover. Much more than is Elmwood, and more attractive, to my eye. The state museums the state symphony are a generous add to the experience. The connection to Durham and Carrboro and Chapel Hill gives opportunities that our surrounding towns and cities do not have. There are better rail connections to the northeast and southeast and closer to the Atlantic Ocean by quite a bit. I am there two or three times a year for family events. Leaving aside the Urban Planet view of things, for someone leaving Charlotte for RDU area as a young person it would be easy to stay there and grow with the region.

Except for urban planning enthusiasts in Raleigh, no one really talks about Charlotte unless asked. It's far enough away that it doesn't really influence the everyday. Much like the average Angeleno never really talks about San Francisco at all until football season--might as well be in a different state. The only people with complexes are the one that talk about it.

as for Charlotte and Raleigh I will offer to conduct a peace summit between the 2 cities as I love them both for different reasons.  I might be able to persuade Krispy Kreme to provide all coffee and treats for the summit.   Need corporate sponsors so I can book the neutral site of the Grandover Resort in Greensboro.   My name means kind and a middle child which means I am a peacemaker by nature.

Charlotte is awesome and Raleigh is awesome. My experience in the Triangle was general indifference and/or favorable attitudes towards Charlotte. Most of us liked visiting and thought of it as "the big city" of the Carolinas. I think if there's saltiness from the Raleigh area it's probably exclusively tied to the urban planning types - so maybe exactly who people on this forum talk to haha. The way I see it, North Carolina as a whole is great and I root for growth and development and infrastructure all over it.

Stop playing Switzerland KJH…I know you play both sides…I see you crossing the UP border and venturing off into that “The NC Triangle” forum just so you can increase your Like count LOL I’m just messing.
 

I used to be a #keepraleighboring advocate but I’ve realized a thriving Charlotte & a thriving Raleigh is a great thing for this state. Now that doesn’t mean I don’t want to knock their PNC  tower out of the top ten tallest tower list in NC tho haha.

honestly I said all that because I think these constant Charlotte is better than Raleigh or vice versa banter is pointless.  I totally agree it is a fantastic thing for this state to have 2 booming metro areas that are attracting jobs and people.  Both cities can learn from each other.

Agreed. It's dumb. We should appreciate both metros for what they are and what they will continue to be.

Not to mention Greensboro, W-S, Wilington, and Asheville.

North Carolina is an economic powerhouse with specialties in pharma, finance, IT, aviation, etc.

100% agree and I'll take it a step further. I root for both North and South Carolina. Their growth and prosperity directly benefit Charlotte (the unofficial capital of the Carolinas). You want MLB someday in Uptown? You should want Columbia and Greensboro to boom. I definitely fit more in NC but I view both states as my home and want Raleigh, Asheville, Greenville, Charleston, etc., to prosper. I pull for UNCC/Charlotte in sports but I love to see Clemson, Duke, Wake, SC, App, State, UNC, etc., win. I'm glad the 'Canes are good again and drawing fans. I think we should be proud of the Carolinas, not just Charlotte. Raleigh/Durham is awesome, just not as awesome as Charlotte.

That’s true.  Ch Hill, W-S, Greensboro, Columbia, Asheville are all within a two hour drive of Charlotte.  Thus, as this relatively small region thrives, it prospers as a whole.

I visit my friends in Raleigh time to time. I would take the train every time if I could. Improved service would be appreciated. Faster speeds and reduced travel times. Just a reduction by 30-45 minutes would make it competitive with car travel. I enjoy the ride rather than drive. Charlotte area and Raleigh area are great along with GSO-WS Wilmy and Asheville. NC is truly growing and improving, great place to live I think.

I believe there is something in the works to install high-speed train service for much of the southeast corridor right? Or at least "high-speed" meaning like what they have in some parts of the Northeast, so maybe like 90+ mph for extended stretches or something.

According to the render the parking deck is exposed on the Winnifred side so all rentable space on the prime streets and deck visibility is appropriate to the site and neighbors who are stick apartments. Fair deal.

They must know what they are doing but even without pandemic induced work from home I'd wonder where all the tenants are coming from. I suppose it's a great sign that developers are so bullish on Charlotte as a commercial real estate market. I have to assume that Ten Tryon gets more unlikely every day (but maybe Publix makes that inevitable).

FWIW, this reminds me a bit of recent NWR residential towers Uptown.

Interesting points I did not know Nuveen which is owned by TIAA and has a small office I hear in Charlotte is the financing backing.  They just partnering with Crescent on a life sciences project up in Holly Springs in Wake County and Nuveen is involved in the Commonwealth in Plaza Midwood.   (and they are part owners of Birkdale Village which is being reimagined right now)

""Crescent Communities and Nuveen Real Estate will partner to bring Carson South End to a nearly 3-acre site off West Carson Boulevard. The project calls for the construction of a 31-story mixed-use tower and will include nearly 560,000 square feet of office space, 10,000 square feet of retail space, a 200-room hotel and over 100 apartments. my thoughts it should just take a 100K office lease to start the tower as that would be 20% or so.   Nuveen has DEEP pockets but I doubt it will go spec.  Despite some turmoil in office leasing people are still leasing space and there is a flight to quality space and this would be that.  Love the balconies and plaza area up high and surely that will draw tenants.
