Sycamore: a wide spreading tree with significant shade. Word is from Greek referring to another type of tree in the Middle East. Transferred in N America to the tree we know. Distinctive in several ways particularly with its mottled bark and light and dark patches as large sections of bark peel away naturally in the growing process.

As a Hoosier it is common in that area and easily recognized. Major role in state recognition as featured in state songs and Indiana State University Sycamores. Relationship to the brewery is unknown, but comforting.

edit: How could I forget that the New York Stock Exchange was founded under the shade of an American Sycamore tree. A buttonwood tree is another name for the tree. There is one there now:

Note mottled bark in the depiction.

Just curious, but does anyone know whether these podium garages are there at the developer's discretion or there because of minimum parking requirements?  I'm guessing the parking exceeds any required minimums.  If Charlotte eliminated required minimums, I'm wondering what lots might suddenly be in play and whether an elimination would in fact act as a type of real estate development stimulus in many parts of center city.
