Nice photos, QCxpat! In the next to last photo it looks like they have poured the first non-podium floor!

Hopefully whatever Cousins builds here on Bland can follow the lead of the Arlington and be something colorful / outside the box. Ever since the Arlington was built I have hoped that whenever more large-scale development makes it that far out, the Arlington could be a fore-runner for more unique urban fabric. I always imagined more modern / sleek, yet colorful designs. This would likely be the Arlington's first true neighborly peer. Maybe they should go for green glass?

Sorry for not being more clear, but I was asking about the project in the very last photo of my post, with the giant drill on the site. I believe 400H is the one that is almost topped out in the 3rd photo.

Took Amtrak from my sister’s in Raleigh back to DC today. Here are a few from the platform, and one from the train. Can anyone name the construction project outside the train window?

The rendering of the apartment building is beautiful, but did they decide to ditch the 2nd, 4th, and 7th floor green terraces on The Line? That'd be terribly disappointing. Maybe they were just rushing through the rendering? Seems like it'd be counterproductive to "undersell" the building "next door" that they would all be looking down on.

Oh, I'm definitely on the same page. I do not WANT Uptown to struggle. I was speaking in more in a "perverse satisfaction / silver lining in something otherwise tragic" kind of way. Hopefully it doesn't happen. That said, I'm curious to see how the office climate uptown changes over the next several years. If the trend plays out with businesses from deep pocketed industries (banking, tech, etc) moving to these newer, amenities-rich buildings, I wonder if we eventually see older uptown space fill in with smaller or more tight-walleted businesses. That would imply a downward trend in rental rates, but not necessarily a doomsday situation. Maybe some silver linings there, too. I'm a layman in these matters, though.

I've gotta admit - if Uptown's land value tanks, it'll be satisfying to see those land hogs reap the fruits of their holding out.

If the design stays with what's in the marketing brochure, then yeah it will be a major expansion of the footprint when the office (and retail) components start construction. The whole "cutout" along the southeast quadrant of the building should fill in. Also, that piece that juts out of the southern wall of the garage should extend out even further. Those areas look to be where the lower terraces will be. It's odd though because the renderings make it look like there will be more parking above the lowest terrace / retail levels. I look forward to watching this one really start to take shape with the retail / office portions of the building. I think it will be a fun one to observe.

I am super impressed by the renderings of this building. Most elegant building under construction in South End IMO. Not only the interesting geometry of the building, and the abundance of outdoor terraces, but the facade design seems unique to Charlotte. Like a contemporary twist on modernism. Really like the copper color, too. Having said that, I can't tell from looking at the renderings where the facade sample that KJHburg posted would go. I'm a bit nervous and wondering if there has been a V.E.'d re-design of the detailing in the facade. (Thanks for posting that shot, though, KJHburg.) BTW, hey everyone. I'm a UNCC alum who's lived in St. Louis since 2007, and about to move to DC with wife in the Spring. I've been perusing this website since about 2003. Wonder if I'm the longest lurker in UP history.
