Just one more example of why our 3-Star recruits so often ending up performing better than other schools’ 5-Star recruits:

According to ESPN, which Florida team has the best chance of making this year’s CFP. The Knights, of course!

https://247sports.com/college/central-florida/Article/UCF-football-ESPN-College-Football-Playoff-projections-Knights-with-best-odds-in-Florida-146701007/

From 24/7 Sports

The status quo folks who believe conferences are inviolate and forever (which is ridiculous given all the changes in the last couple of decades) are seeing the reality that those who have the money (and call the tune) are no longer willing to prop up old structures that can’t bear the weight.

The teams at the top of the conferences will be fine, but why subsidize declining programs going forward (like the half of the teams in the SEC in states that are barely growing...or worse?)

If you look from the outside, how is it that Memphis, which on the merits is arguably the best team in TN, KY, MO, AR and MS, is being discriminated against by other teams in those states?

At the end of the day, ESPN uses Disney analytic models and in no universe does that make sense. That paradigm is about to fall (especially since The Mouse can no longer print Disney Dollars freely until they recover from the pandemic).

More from ESPN: If you take out now-departed UCONN, the AAC would have outranked the ACC in SP+ grades. @JFW657 , tell Buddy to crank up that bulldozer, time for some decrepit old walls to come down:

Is UCFootball trying too hard to rock the boat?

Nevertheless, CBS Sports’ Tom Fornelli ranks UCF #25 on their preseason list. The Eye network isn’t as bullish on our Knights as ESPN but we’ll take it:

@jgardnerucf, still think we’re an Orlando school? So far, Oviedo’s  mayor ain’t pulled a faux pas like this...

Dumb tweet and I don't like UF at all. But one of the replies from one of our downtown bar owners caught my eye and was very surprised by some of the tweets he has. I guess I shouldn't be surprised any more.

The Palm Beach Post ain’t buying what ESPN is selling:

https://www.palmbeachpost.com/sports/20200505/forget-big-three-state-team-with-best-chance-to-reach-playoffs-is-ucf-according-to-espn

Yes, I’d tend to agree it ain’t likely. If it happens, I’ll definitely buy out the Lotto tickets at my Eola Publix that day.

Here’s the thing he’s missing: more importantly than who gets into a CFP this year with four spots, is what ESPN is signaling.

The sports network that drives much of the money in college football (not to mention most of the bowl games) has done a complete 180 on UCF from just a few years back.

When the current contracts are done by 2025, things are going to change. What ESPN seems to be saying is that up and comers like the Knights are going to be compared on a more equal basis with the “fading glories” of the legacy schools and in many cases there ain’t much to compare. Ole Miss, for example, hasn’t seen an SEC title since college football was desegregated over 50 years ago.

All UCF has ever asked is a fair shake - it’s a few years off, but one of the sport’s major stakeholders is signaling the time is approaching. The Knights have to earn it on the field, but that’s only fair. It’s a shame that schools like Wake Forest and Vandy seem to think they don’t need to do the same.

ESPN ponders whether the American is now the junior member of a “P6” (even though it often outperforms PAC-12 and ACC) or if it’s now the “G5’s” version of the SEC.

In any event, can anyone take on UCF and Memphis (although the Tigers have a new coach and have yet to beat the Knights).

ESPN’s preview of the top half of the American:
