  1. Yep. This says the owners plan to build a hotel. http://www.spencerhines.com/blog/sold-land-for-future-hotel-near-top-golf-in-greenville/
  2. A few nice words from Peter King with CNNSI Its seems to leave that impression on every one that enters it. We are pretty lucky to have it.

    The Rumor Mill

Poinsett Homes agrees to judgment in $5.3 million debt Doesn't look like they have much of a sales staff left at any of their neighborhoods. I would imagine that bankruptcy is forthcoming.
  4. Greenville News beta testing new site. Loads faster and is much prettier. Haven't tried the forums yet.
  5. American Grocery had a couple empty 4 tops out of a total of 50 seats. Not great for a Saturday night. Pomegranate was packed.
  6. The wife and I dined at American Grocery over the weekend. The food was excellent. They kept the recipes simple and tasty. My wife won the appetizer battle with duck egg/arugula soup, but I won the entre battle with the seared scallops over grits. The place is small and feels very cozy. Nice atmosphere overall. The drinks were made properly and in the correct size glasses. The bartender needs to stop with the 'Cocktail' routine, and the wait staff could use a little practice, as there was some odd delays and miscommunications between them. Price was about what I would expect for the food and overall experience. Highly recommended. Afterwards, we stopped in Pomegranate for drinks. Very cool place and the patio will be a great place to hang out, come summertime. The menu scared the wife a bit, but I can't wait to try it out. Gotta start saving up for the babysitter again.
  7. Ted Smith (co-owner of Poinsett Homes) is the registered agent of the LLC that owns the parcel, Rhino Realty Fund.
  8. I had the chance to try both Blue Fire Grill and Azia over the past week. It has been mentioned that the ambiance in both places is really cool. That is true, but I was very dissapointed at both restaurants. At Blue Fire, the meal was TERRIBLY expensive for the amount of food. I could spend less on more (and better) at any of Soby's restaurants. The seared Tuna was mushy. The rocks glasses are tiny, so you are spending $6-10 for a couple sips and a bunch of ice. Being a glutton for punishment, I tried the seared tuna at Azia, as well. I have never seen it screwed up so bad. They actually burnt it. Also tried the ribs. They were tough and were slathered with what I think was sweet and sour sauce (the same as you can get at No.1 China.) Rocks glasses were the right size, but the pour was light for a $7 house liquor. (I might want to switch to beer.) Maybe I just had bad luck, or caught them on a bad night. But a first impression has been made, and I doubt I will go back to either.
  9. And just pitched a no-no against the Orioles. Congrats Clay!
  10. I just posted this in the Asheville forum, but thought it was relelvant here, as well. Cliffs Communities has contracted with Tiger Woods to develop a course just east of Asheville. Article on golf.com
  11. Is anyone else having a loading problem with UP? Each new page that I open seems to lock for about 10 seconds before I can click a link or scroll down, etc.
  12. Excerpt from email from Terwilliger, Davis and Leadbetter about the condos:
  13. Well, DEI gave a scholarship to a Clemson student that was already doing an internship at DEI. I hope it goes deeper than this, but it doesn't seem like that big of a deal. Presser
  14. Is the Daniel building considered Class A or B? How is the occupancy rate in that building?
  15. We ate are Rio Grill the other night with friends. The servers were very attentive. Wine list was decent. Most of the meats were good, but there were a couple I should have passed on. Salad bar offered many choices. I was OK with the price, but it was on the verge of expensive. On the whole, it was nice, but didn't have that 'Gotta go back' feel. Something was missing, but I don't know what.
  16. I checked the Drive's website last night to check this weeks schedule. Lawd, that took FOREVER to load. They seriously need to simplify.
  17. I'm headed to Vegas in July. Just missed the great price! I guess I will have to plan another trip to take advantage.
  18. The wife and I had a night out on the town, Saturday (for the first time since our boy was born). We dined at The Lazy Goat, overlooking the river. It is a nice, casual atmosphere, with all the wait staff wearing jeans and a Lazy Goat tshirt. The food is meant to be shared, so we did. We tried 4 different appetizers and all were amazing (the Moroccan Lamb being the favorite). For dinner, my wife had the fish (which was head-on, so it was smiling at me for a while), and I had the Tagliatelle. Both were very good. Drinks were strong and came quickly, just like I like 'em. I would give them high marks on everything including price. We escaped with <$100 before tip. IMO, they have hit another home run!

That is the restaurant started by Ali Saffi (owns the franchise rights to Subway in SC). Can't wait to try it.
  21. ^^ and evidently, there will be "pubic" and "semi-pubic" green spaces. This project is definitely going to be dense. I would like to see Sulpher Springs (I think that is the road) widened over the interstate to Verdae.
  22. Good question. Who is marketing those condos? I have not seen one bit of adverisement about them?

    The West End

No doubt. Random open and close times don't make for a happy shopping experience. I walk the kids around most every Saturday morning and I am amazed at the stores not open at 10:00. BTW, is Halfway to Habana closed prior to their move? Their hours of operation say they open at 10:30 on Sat, but when I walked by at 11:15, they were closed up.
