  1. Coffee talk has it that Deli & Donuts didn't renew their lease because they weren't allowed to. In the article, they mentioned it was because they wanted to focus on catering. Not mutually exclusive categories, but if they weren't allowed to renew, may be that's a sign that work will begin soon. Take all of this with a grain of salt, or sugar, as it were. Coffee and salt might not be the best of pairs.
  2. There are those car dealership lots for sale. Wonder if that wouldn't work for something along those lines.
  3. I was just talking to someone yesterday who knew one of the contractors, and apparently they were ready to tear down last month. "Must have gotten held back." Then today I see the fencing! Good signs. Also, it looks like the building across the street is being remodeled!
  4. I tried verifying with other parties, and no luck. Well, fingers crossed!
  5. Rumors of Westgate Mall being torn down by the end of the year. Anyone know one way or the other?
  6. A LOT to digest! I need to take a closer look at the boundaries for the project. For those who were there, there is the block to the west of City Hall, and the block where Spartanburg Herald is at. Are both of those being devoted to this project? Or is the possible development there going to be for different projects? Trying to figure out where the new Hotel might go.
  7. I've heard rumors that the Pepsi facility redevelopment is not happening. Anyone know if it is still moving forward? Neighborhood resistance was mentioned as the cause of pulling back.
  8. If this happens along with the Coca-Cola redevelopment + the beautification of the corridor, I think it will be a shift in the right direction. I was hoping that the motel on west main street would have been redeveloped also, yet it appears that cosmetics changes was the extent of the work done. There's also the DAN trail that will be cutting across that area. Anyone know whatever became of the apartments that were going to be built at Cohen's?
  9. Per designer, it would only be the left most building, so, not Ann's Wigs or the area behind it, just beside it.
  10. I think it would be more what is to the building to the left of Ann's Wigs. I could ask for further clarification.
  11. Not quite downtown but near it. Please move to another post if more appropriate! Conceptual plans for Seven Peaks Plaza. From designer: "The 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐛𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 is this... Rental space for small businesses Main Plaza area for music, food trucks, and just a great vibe. Main Building for rent for a Restaurant" They are looking for investors.
  12. Thank you for sharing! We wouldn't be where we are today apart from BMW. Will have to do the tour myself! Great pics.
  13. East side QT appears to be moving forward, for: Notice is hearby given that QuikTrip Corporation intends to apply to the South Carolina Department of Revenue for a license and/or permit that will allow the sale and OFF premises consumption of Beer/wine at 2810 E Main St Ext., Spartanburg, SC 29307.
  14. Apparently, it's not related to any new opening through the 100 East Main Development, but on the decision to focus on catering: "I have decided to open Downtown Deli Catering and Elizabeth's Cakes," Evans said in a statement. "The catering side of my business has always been a large component and I have turned down many opportunities because of my time and commitment to the restaurant." Spartanburg Herald.
  15. I love the addition of public restrooms, the 18 hour approach, the fact that it's easier to stroll through the different areas. As someone who favors the closures of the streets as I was hoping the amount left to outside dining seating would be more than what is apparent from the designs. Not too crazy about the more modern vibe given the architecture of current buildings, though I can see it tying in the newer ones that are planned. Mixed bag for me, as I imagine any re-envisioning would be.
  16. 𝐌𝐎𝐑𝐆𝐀𝐍 𝐒𝐐𝐔𝐀𝐑𝐄 𝐑𝐄𝐍𝐃𝐄𝐑𝐈𝐍𝐆𝐒 are 𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐄! The 𝐟𝐫𝐮𝐢𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐚 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫'𝐬 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐡 𝐨𝐟 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤, 𝑖𝑛𝑐𝑙𝑢𝑑𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑚𝑢𝑐ℎ 𝑝𝑢𝑏𝑙𝑖𝑐 𝑖𝑛𝑝𝑢𝑡, has produced the following renderings and design for our central Morgan Square, our 𝐇𝐔𝐁 of common life. 𝐂𝐎𝐑𝐄 𝐏𝐈𝐄𝐂𝐄𝐒 𝐌𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐃𝐮𝐧𝐛𝐚𝐫 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐜𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐨𝐟𝐟 to daily traffic. - Can still be used by emergency vehicles. - Could be opened up again in the future. - Traffic can still flow along Spring and Magnolia Street. 𝐋𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 for safety and ambiance. - Creates an 18 hour space. 𝐒𝐨𝐟𝐭 "𝐞𝐝𝐠𝐞𝐬" are all around. - Make the square more inviting. 𝐕𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐨𝐫'𝐬 𝐊𝐢𝐨𝐬𝐤 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐦𝐬. - Includes storage and a canopy area. - Next to a flat area. A 𝐰𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐟𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞! - Can be turned off. - Prevents it from being a safety hazard. 𝐓𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐬 for sitting and gathering together. - Helps with grading. - Versus benches, which can give an empty look. 𝐃𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐞𝐥 𝐌𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐚𝐧 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐮𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 remains in place. A 𝐬𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐩𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬. - Yet not envisioned as the main place for music venues. An 𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐚 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐝𝐨𝐨𝐫 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠. - Less than is there now. - Still would make use of where parking spots are there now. A 𝟕𝟎% 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐬𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐞. - Yet still brings in an increase of pedestrian space. 𝐈𝐌𝐌𝐄𝐃𝐈𝐀𝐓𝐄 𝐍𝐄𝐗𝐓 𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐏𝐒 1 - Have 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐮𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 about maintenance and operational considerations with city staff. 2 - Carry out needed 𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤. 3 - Look more closely at 𝐜𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐬. 4 - Continue to work with business and stakeholders to address 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐫 𝐝𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐬.
  17. I'd say it has vibes from what was envisioned in the Comprehensive Plan, which was love at first sight for me. Obviously, no historic buildings, but that center plaza area with trees and retail/restaurants? Perfection!
  18. That's another rumor. But, again, from my perspective, has that situation changed drastically since they bought up the sites and proposed their plan? Granted, I work from the downtown area every day, and I haven't noticed such a change, yet perhaps it's -because- I work from downtown I haven't noticed the change, like parents watching their children growing and not seeing the subtle changes that in time become major,
  19. A realtor heard it was on hold because of lack of parking. Clearly that can't be it, as a side parking garage as a must was never part of the plans. Apart from higher interest rates driving up costs and putting things on hold, I can't think of anything material that has changed since this was first announced? Even the much rumored stadium has become a publicly announced plan since then.
  20. Several months ago I heard the 109 E Main Street was on hold because of higher interest rates. I can't imagine all the increases by then have helped. Anyone know the status of the e-sports arena that was being examined?
  21. Kind of an aside, but... 20,000+ students are we only have a couple of pizza joints?! It's always amazed me how little we feel like a college town with our many institutions of higher learning. Now, that might be a good thing, but I guess that might be because colleges were bubbles for a long time with not much to do outside...? When I went to Wofford, walking to downtown would not have been advisable. Now I see more and more of that happening. Brings a nice level of vibrancy!
  22. I think a lot of people forget they are even there! When people complain about parking and I bring up the numerous lots, sometimes I just get back a blank stare... The upper decks would be reopened for July 4th and the like.
  23. Interesting! Good thing it was tested in a section of the county first.
