  1. AIG isn't who I heard mentioned. I do have reason to believe AIG is looking for more space (in Charlotte and elsewhere) since they are downsizing their New York offices, but nothing concrete or imminent that I know of.
  2. I thought that was near 277 near the Spectrum development? In either case, super excited if this one pans out.
  3. I've heard on good authority that we will likely hear an announcement very soon for a major expansion (NOT HQ relocation) of a company already in Charlotte, with their new development built in South End. This is third or fourth hand information, but the original source is well-placed enough I figured it was worth mentioning here. I'm wondering if this is the one alluded to earlier in the fall and in the South End mid-rise thread as well.
  4. Hearing from a #source that was recently hired by the new bank that they will be bouncing around several locations in Charlotte for the time being, including South Park and Lake Pointe. They will be one of the first to know about any new technology tower - will provide an update if I hear anything. Sounds like it will be a while however as mergers like this take a long time.
  5. Thanks for the scoop. That's...extremely frustrating. Those lines are very high and the trees were not. Ah well, hopefully the community and all stakeholders find a suitable replacement.
  6. A couple of proposed updates (don't have access): The Refinery is complete as best I can tell (I-77 and Morehead) "The Mint Tavern" (Graham and 4th) is complete as Taproom Social
  7. Does anyone know why most of the small trees and bushes along the Stewart/Irwin Creek greenway connector were clear-cut? Not the most striking of trees, but it still made for a much more shady walk or run and I saw people regularly take professional pictures underneath some of the more attractive trees. Hopefully they are replaced by something else, otherwise it seems like a massive waste to cut them all down.
  8. This is just embarrassing if the city lets him get away with it
  9. How long before Brookhill is redeveloped? I could see it being a master development with South End then extending from 77 to a couple of streets east of South at that area.
  10. Enjoy walking by this one every day - awesome to see something grow over so long.
  11. Good chance of an actual cool down and below normal temps by the middle of next week. Luckily average is still very comfortable starting this time of year.
  12. Counting down until Fall weather is here....
  13. They might expand in Uptown (and have quietly for the past 18 months) but they will always be a NYC-HQ/Intl-looking company barring a massive shakeup. Current expansion has been in their current space - doubt they would build a tower with their current focus on reducing expenses.
  14. LU 1 keeps growing on me - although I have always been at least a lukewarm supporter. Not sure if i'll ever come fully around on the dunce cap, but with other buildings around it I think it will stand out nicely without being overbearing. That parking deck on the other hand....
  15. Can't agree more. Lovely walking/running area for those of us on the west side of Uptown/FreeMoreWest
  16. This game always struggles with attendance. The ptb that run the event keep ticket prices high (>$70) for the nosebleeds rather than slashing prices in the upper bowl or letting the secondary market take over. I will also say that the shaded areas on the side opposite the camera had much better attendance. It was very hot out there.
  17. If only all of our automobile traffic was in cars that looked like that...
  18. It's common at least in my old grocery stores in Michigan. Not sure if it's a regional thing.
  19. Any idea how well these are leasing? I'm very curious as I think it is a good benchmark for the potential for growth in the Uptown market currently.
  20. Maybe we will get a Trump tower after his Presidency as reward for hosting the RNC?
  21. I know Roma dropping out and the heat had to have taken a bite out of attendance
  22. Took a quick 3-day weekend trip to Philadelphia having never visited before! Some observations: 1. Soft Goods Retail - I was surprised at the success of soft-goods retail in Center City. Even stores such as Five Below could survive on major streets with large footprints in a way we haven't seen in Charlotte. Over 100,000 live in Center City, which definitely helps, and Philly also doesn't have astronomical rents in the same way as NYC. 2. Street Grid Structure - I was not a fan of the miles and miles of continuous grids in all directions. Although it was easy to know where I was east to west (10th St, 23rd St, etc.), I am more appreciative of having a diversity of road angles. That isn't to say that we should have a replication of our current South Charlotte transportation mess elsewhere, but I much prefer DC's layout in this regard or even just any mid-sized city that has a small central grid with a mixture of road angles outside of it. 3. Row Houses/Neighborhood Fabric - I was very impressed by the the row-house neighborhoods and the level of mixed use development. From where my friend lives in a decent-but-not-great area, there were multiple grocery options and a very nice, human-scale mix of apartments, condos, restaurants, and stores. I also appreciate the building heights themselves - in many ways South End's 5-6 story apartments feel a little too tall to be welcoming and too short to be a true urban center by comparison. 4. Transit - Honestly quite poorer than I expected. The bus system seemed reliable and relatively efficient, if a little too heavy on the number of stops (essentially every block). However, the metro line left much to be desired and there were the ruins of the old streetcar system throughout town that I believe would be very effective today. The headways to make it into the city from the airport were also rather long (>30 mins via SEPTA). Congestion was obvious on the interstates during the middle of the day on a weekend, with I-76 in between the river and the hills outside of town a clear issue with no room for roadway expansion. 5. History and Parks - This is where Philly shines. In multiple locations inventive usage of monuments and well-kept, wooded parks were very nice. The mini-National Mall near Independence Hall feels a little out of place with the surrounding development but is still a beautiful historical area. Finally, the waterfront/old city area are beautiful if detracted by I-95 running right through the area. If any place in the country needs a full interstate cap, this is it.
  23. My roommate interned there back in college. Missed a bad situation it seems.
