  1. Those letters seem really small. How does it look from 277? You'd think they would want the signage to be as big as possible with so much traffic driving by.
  2. Is it this lot?: https://www.charlotteagenda.com/172484/nandina-towns-townhouse-community-in-plaza-midwood/
  3. One of the best in the area. They make one of the best french saisons I've ever had.
  4. Hell yeah someone put this on a hat pronto
  5. I want to like it. I really do. But man this just feels very . . . MS Paint-y? Did they turn down any concepts, or just go with the first draft? Guess I got my hopes up for something more exciting.
  6. The cantilevered glass box is such a great element of this project. It feels very imposing and definitely catches the eye when driving down Stonewall. I'm so pumped for this stretch once everything is finally open.
  7. That would definitely be more palatable! It would be interesting to see an updated proposal for that kind of a project and what work is included in the full number. The world has changed a lot from 2012, and few places have changed more than Charlotte. Relocating or greatly reducing the footprint of that substation would open a ton of doors for that area of the city for both development and connectivity. Maybe someone like Tepper has enough weight to make it happen.
  8. The logistics of moving a substation like this are staggering, especially in a dense area like Uptown where all the utilities are underground. The issue isn't even finding a new site really, but relocating all of the utilities to that new site. A buddy in the know told me that the cost estimates would be in the Billions of dollars, not Millions once you factor in engineering, planning, real estate (ROW) acquisition, substation construction, and utility relocation.
  9. My wife and I went to Mangoes once and it was one of the weirdest experiences we have ever had. We were just looking for a quick bite and a beer on a hot day so we wandered in. There was one woman working (?) who took our drink order, but she couldn't figure out how to use the beer taps behind the bar so she gave us bottled beers instead. Then she just . . . left and never came back. People kept coming into the restaurant, sitting for about 10 minutes until they received no service, and then leaving. We were there for about 30-40 minutes and never got our food order taken. Not even sure if there was a kitchen. Something about it screamed, "this restaurant is a front for something shady" but we couldn't figure it out. Who opens the doors to a restaurant with no staff inside?
  10. Wow. Thats a huge loss. CD was easily one of my favorites in Charlotte and was a go-to date night location for the wife and I.
  11. I know this is going to sound like I'm defending Duke which is a no-no in these parts, but I think people on this board underestimate how big of a deal it is to bury power lines. You can't just contact any electrician to convert utility lines from overhead to underground. It takes a special skill-set to do that work, and that skill-set has been in high demand in the Charlotte area just trying to keep up with all of the new development as well as maintaining the existing infrastructure. All of the new development is putting a constraint on that workforce, which is driving the cost up and making all of this prohibitively expensive. You can't just snap your fingers and bury this stuff, and there aren't electrical crews sitting around looking for work to do. Ironically, Charlotte's growth rate might be the biggest thing holding it back with this stuff.
  12. Two cases of Coronavirus confirmed in Mecklenburg county per the observer. If it hasn't effected your life yet, it probably will soon. https://www.charlotteobserver.com/news/local/article240884821.html
  13. I actually think BB&T would be a good site to retrofit for a soccer stadium. That block is too small for MLB, but it is about right for MLS I think.
  14. Just curious - did you check what the 6 pack bottle price is at Rhino? I know a 6 pack of Copper/Captain Jack is $9.99 at HT and Publix. If they charge more for less beer just because its in a can that would anger me.
  15. Any insight on what is causing the delays? Seems like this should have been pretty quick and easy since the building already exists.
  16. Is this the lot directly across from Sunstead and Palmer St? I have a friend that has been working on plans for an apartment building on that lot as well.
  17. Have there been any updates on this? Original groundbreaking date was announced as 3Q 2019 . . . Time to get a bit worried?
  18. Are there any plans in the pipeline to improve Hawkins as of right now? It is already a battlefield and it is going to get much worse when RAM is full and Portman is complete. It needs to have lines painted at a bare minimum. I think a raised crosswalk at Doggett would be good as well. Visibility of crossing pedestrians is poor at that intersection due to the on-street parking.
  19. Are there plans for retail on the backside of the parking deck? IE the side facing the Charlotte Beer Garden?
  20. One more pic of the Grand Bohemian fronting Trade St with its new awnings. This project with the street car running in front of it will make the block feel much more vibrant.
  21. Ask for wood paneling, and receive wood paneling. It looks like they just started putting this up. It looks pretty good in my opinion.
  22. Seems like it should be easy to address, especially since it was hit by a street sweeper who was likely a city contractor.
  23. Has the plan for the Tupelo Honey building been announced? I'd hate for that building to see the wrecking ball, but I also doubt that it was purchased with its current state in mind for the future.
  24. Man I hope they can get creative here. I'm not a fan of Crosland's portfolio and I think all of their projects would be a bad fit for this area, but obviously they could make a huge impact with this much land combined with Eastland.
