  1. Its not the quantity of outdoor space, its the type of outdoor space. And sure it gets plenty of sun now, but what about when it is bookended on the other side with the new residential tower? I just think its far less welcoming to people walking by that just want to drop in to take a load off, listen to some live music, drink some beers and check out some food trucks. Again, I'm not saying this is going to be a flop. It is going to be a major hit and I'm sure it'll continue to do great business with the Southend demographic. I'm just offering one guy's opinion on why I won't be going.
  2. Yeah I've been saying this since this redevelopment came about. Sycamore isn't popular because the beer is so good. They have been popular because they had a wide open lot where you could sit out in the sun with your dogs and a kid or two and be right on the rail trail. I'm sure the new taproom will be successful with the Southend crowd, but for the life of me I cannot think of a reason I would visit it. I can go to a million places in Charlotte and sit under trendy lights and next to a fake ivy covered wall and drink a bad $8 IPA. Its lost the only thing that differentiated it from all the other breweries in Charlotte.
  3. It seems like this thing will have to be pretty tall to fit all of that given the parcel size, right?
  4. Counterpoint, Frothy Beard is a gross name for a brewery.
  5. Thought we were getting Brickell but instead we got Ballantyne. What a bummer.
  6. First Ward Park would be horrible. I really hope they re-think that idea. Not only is First Ward ugly, cold, and uninviting, but it might also be as far away as you can get from bars and restaurants as possible in Uptown.
  7. Quick, someone start a "Southend Low-Rise Projects" thread!
  8. They won’t be buried under the park unfortunately. They will just be buried along the Medical School property. From the structure next to the substation to the boundary of the project across from Charlottetown Terrace.
  9. Do you think actual consumption is down, or do you think the dormancy of this thread is more closely tied with a lull in the announcement of new breweries and taprooms? Every brewery I've been to over the past couple of months is just as crowded as ever. I would imagine there is a lack of new projects due to the overall economic environment (interest rates, inflation, employment) being more prohibitive than a lack of demand, but just my two cents. Also, I wish OMB's Bock Party wasn't seasonal because that is a delicious beer that I could see having mass appeal.
  10. I wonder what kind of bulk discount they got on those windows.
  11. This building is a perfect metaphor for Independence. Is it a highway? Is it a street? Is it a restaurant? Is it a billboard? Nobody knows!
  12. You jest, but I would probably go just to see 13 story pole dancing
  13. Anyone able to get an update on what they are doing up here? There was a new crane hoisting stuff up onto the roof today.
  14. Silver Line = Need 277 Cap = Want
  15. Is that parking deck getting wrapped with apartments as well? It looks really awkward from Optimist Park.
  16. According to Wikipedia, the Venom F5 ranges anywhere from $1.6m to $2.1m in cost and only 24 exist. Thats a cool find if those numbers are correct.
  17. Wanted to check to see if there was any updated information on the gold line extension and found this on the Charlotte NC website: Suffice to say that the city might not be the best source for breaking news and updates.
  18. It has been discussed in the Southend High Rise thread. Sterling Bay is the developer and they are planning a 30-40 story apartment building.
  19. Do you know if the 37 story tower is all office or residential? Is there any hotel component?
  20. Probably shy of 600'. New Duke building is 40 floors at 597'.
  21. Would you want to open a business in any of those spaces? I don't think its a big mystery. Lincoln Harris set up their retail like they were trying to meet a quota rather than trying to build spaces where retail could thrive. I think the parcels pending development have the most promise though since they have frontage along Stonewall, so I'm (pessimistically) withholding judgment.

    MoRA

Monroe Road seems doomed to be a very high-traffic, car heavy area . It would be great if we could get a little mini entertainment district around the coliseum for before and after events. I wouldn’t really want to walk anywhere around here though.
  23. Am I to assume that this cool building is no more?
