  1. Who needs an entire music hall when you can live on Lyric Lane?
  2. Fencing has gone up around 307 W Tremont. It looks like this will be the next building to get its makeover in the design district. The only rendering I could find of this one is the rendering posted on the Charlotte Agenda. No idea if this is a full tear down or a major renovation.
  3. Noticed even more renovations being done on 1225 S Church this morning. This poor building has been undergoing renovations for about 20% of its life. That has to be an absolute headache for tenants. Hopefully this is an anomaly, and all of the other stick-built apartments in Southend don't start having these problems.
  4. Does anyone know roughly what the occupancy rate of the Mint Museum Tower is? Every time I look up at it in the night sky, it looks completely dark.
  5. I think the retail looks pretty good. That will hopefully make South Blvd feel less like an interstate and more like an inner-city road. That being said, I'm not a big fan of the style of this building. I think that they should have either invested what it would have taken to make this building actually look like a "revamped old mill", or gone with another style entirely. This just looks like a cheap imitation. I am hoping that they finished project looks a little more convincing.
  6. I agree with that. There are parts of this building that could be cool if they are renovated, broken up into smaller units, and completely re envisioned. I really like how Craft was able to use the back wall as a projection screen to show movies for their patrons. The same wall has a mural on it right outside Unknown. But the shipping/receiving dock on the corner of Bland and Church surrounded by barbed wire is horrible. Even that part of the building though, would be awesome as a courtyard or beer garden for a new tenant.
  7. Giant "For Lease" sign out front of the WePak building in Southend. I'm honestly surprised that this building has lasted in this neighborhood. It has a massive footprint and is in a prime location, sandwiched between Craft, Unknown, and Seoul Food. Not to mention is is horrifically ugly and acts as barrier for pedestrians between all of those locations. Seems to me like an apartment developer would have been itching to snatch this up.
  8. I don't think people are doing it on purpose. Our neighborhood looked like a minefield of them this morning. I think the wind and rain knock them over. People don't realize that kickstand + wet grass/mud = bike on its side. I think you are right that paved areas near desirable locations where these things can be parked out of the way would alleviate most of the issues.
  9. Ctrl-C, Ctrl-V. This architectural style has become so boring. Every new building looks identical. Hopefully the retail component is engaging
  10. I always fantasized about that lot with the radio tower becoming something like an aquarium or some sort of museum with a regional attraction. I think it would add so much life to that park and that section of uptown. It would also be great in combination with ImagninOn right across the street.
  11. Spotted what looks like a sample of the facade that will be fronting Tryon. These are sitting in their lot across the street. Gives you an idea of what the materials and colors will look like on this building.
  12. That's awesome news. That is a cool building that could definitely use a facelift.
  13. Some progress pics from Summit. First two are Summit Square townhouses on Summit and Kee. Second two are of sitework on 300 West Summit. Looks like the have the base of Southend's next tower crane in place.
  14. That's good to hear. I am still concerned about how responsive they will be in a year or two when the bikes are older, and have had more and more abuse and the issues become more frequent.
  15. I am just hoping that these bikes are maintained in some form or fashion over the course of time. I already see them just flung into gutters and bushes when I walk around Southend on Saturday and Sunday mornings. I think these things will become extremely annoying if the streets are littered with broken bikes that nobody can use.
  16. This may be my favorite project going on in Charlotte right now. It is going to add a huge presence to that stretch on Camden. I love the materials they have chosen for the exterior of the building, I love how they have concealed the massive parking deck, and I love the wide sidewalks lined with retail.
