  1. yes, this place is awesome - the portions are ENORMOUS, have had the crab cake platter (which is a bit expensive, but it's tons of crab), and the trout platter, which was like $10 for 3 giant pieces of trout, on rice, with two sides. it is very slow at the counter, which is the downside. but the owner is talking with everyone and cracking jokes, it's a pleasant experience
  2. It's interesting they are now named after the former owner's dogs.
  3. I must say, this site has been FAR better thus far than Dion's work at the Agenda...maybe all the terrible takes can just be blamed on Ted after all
  4. per their instagram but without many details, Max & Lola's seems to be reopening under new ownership. Some commenters discussing how the former owners "lost" it, not sure exactly what happened there. The page doesn't mention CBD so we'll see if they bring that back, the new paint job is looking nice at least and there has been some activity inside in recent weeks.
  5. Max & Lola's was selling crapty non-local beers for ~$7, so I'm not sure if that portends anything about the local craft market. Free Range is supposed to open a new location at Camp North End, not sure on the timeline for that. Blue Blaze has pretty much always been non-crowded, with a handful of neighborhood folks. It had a good crowd on Open Streets but that was the only time I've been there and felt like it was a viable business. Wooden Robot South End actually doesn't have a huge crowd on weeknight happy hours either, except for trivia nights (at which Jacob kills it) and run club type things, I think they make their bread on the weekends and 36th street is likely no different. It's interesting that Heist stuff isn't that readily available, as they clearly have a good bit of production space with the new brewery (which has been surprisingly uncrowded at most of my visits, as it's probably my overall favorite taproom in the city).
  6. Brookshire especially has several *terribly* designed exits, which cause a lot of the traffic issues in the area. A regular grid surface road could go a long way to fixing some of the issues in the area.
  7. People love a two-story building that doesn't even face a street?
  8. I would expect they know what to do to create a good experience and will do so at the new location as well.
  9. I do not understand how the candle bar could possibly last there.
  10. Max & Lola's listing reposted at $350K, no additional data in the listing however https://www.bizbuysell.com/Business-Opportunity/EDEE-with-CBD-SouthEnd/1673961/?d=/wEFeSUyZm5vcnRoLWNhcm9saW5hJTJmY2hhcmxvdHRlLWJ1c2luZXNzZXMtZm9yLXNhbGUlMmYyJTJmJTNmcSUzZCUyZndFRkptazlORGczT1Rnd1FVWW1hWEk5TVNac2MzSmZjbXhpY0c0OU1TWnVQV0VtYzNCcFpEMDA=
  11. It's odd, there are so few actually good "bars" in this city. CM at least has the option to buy packaged beers and drink them at a reasonable price (which many of the other copies have not copied)
  12. if i've found the right listing (it seems to fit), they claim to be making $20K/month in profits. i don't understand how that could possibly be the case unless they massively frontloaded inventory. (always gotta be careful with these broker-offered businesses) the rent is only $4K/month though!
  13. oh wow, interesting, didn't see that. i assume they don't own the building, so that seems like a wild overpay
  14. never had food even though it was supposedly a bodega drinks were extremely expensive (especially packaged stuff, pricing wasn't even close to Common Market etc.) went all-in on CBD, priced it highly (long-term users would just order online since this is legal...) banned children due to CBD even though they're in a neighborhood with quite a few of them, and the "outside yard hangout" type vibe was perfect for kids + pets there was a long nextdoor thread where they surveyed the neighborhood re: what they'd want, then they just ended up...trying to sell CBD joints and food truck burgers with CBD.
  15. Noticed this was still closed today (the IG post announcing mechanical problems was Sept 7, so it's been 16 days); would be stunned if they re-opened at this point. They took what may have originally been a good idea and went in all sorts of questionable directions with it...
  16. Hmm putting a coffee shop hidden back behind everything is apparently not a good idea?
  17. I find it hard to care about this, because the Music Factory is a *terrible* location. It's completely inaccessible from basically every other part of the greater uptown area.
  18. Investors looking for a big payday with something like this would be ill-advised, the market for big craft acquisitions is no longer what it was.
  19. well in pretty much their immediate neighborhood the following are far better breweries: Robot Heist Divine NoDa Won't work for on-premise unless they're busy on multiple weekdays, and as mentioned, they're basically in distro nowhere. So I would be surprised to see this go well.
  20. Ashton, DFA and the RailYard buildings are not midrises to you?
  21. What is the 12-ish story building to the left of Lowe's here? Did this recently go under construction back there?
  22. Curious to see how much longer Max & Lola's is there: no one is ever there, and they went all-in on CBD, very odd move.
