  1. That's actually a great idea! Maybe even go up to 36th and connect Plaza to Noda.
  2. I think there should be the full 10 mile buildout but separate the line into two. Have each line terminate at Gateway or the CTC. Signal priority and dedicated lanes where possible. Separate lanes at the end of the lines would be good, imagine trying to go along Central in traffic.
  3. He has really gone off the deep end recently.... drunk the Trump tantrum kool-aid.
  4. Get ready for some great photos of construction from yours truly! I'm happy to see the mill resued, I would like to see a bloody grocery store in NoDa though!!
  5. It is unique to Charlotte, a rarity when so many historic buildings have been torn down. It adds character and authenticity to our city.
  6. As someone trying to decide between a job offer with Wells Fargo and another company, the whole re-rog and hiring freeze is really filling me with dread and making my decision almost impossible.
  7. A family friend of mine was hit on South Blvd this time last year and was flung 30ft down the road. She was crossing at an intersection with a walk signal when a speeding driver turned and hit her. She should have died. South Blvd is incredibly dangerous and if it wasn't an arterial road then it should go on a diet.
  8. I’m going to call it right now, Wells Fargo will move their headquarters out of San Francisco to reduce costs. I can’t imagine it’ll be to New York so either us or Minneapolis. I’d guess Charlotte. Wells Fargo’s recent shuffle includes the Duke Energy Center: with WF taking up more space in DEC and Duke’s new tower, it would not surprise me in the least to see DEC renamed Wells Fargo Corporate Center. You’ve got at least 4 buildings Uptown (2WFC, 3WFC, DEC and 300 Brevard), the CIC, and Ballantyne. Plenty of space for all the support workers.
  9. https://dribbble.com/shots/13875033-Queen-City-FC-Concept#shot-description I found this concept and I must say that I very much prefer it. It could even have 'CHARLOTTE' written where the 'C' is.
  10. And here it is: Michael Truhe was very close!
  11. Not the highest quality but I thought it was pretty cool! The stages of a flash of lightning as seen from my balcony:
  12. I'm with kermit on this one. I live in NoDa without a car just fine. I am from London though so am used to not having a car, although comparing CATS to TfL would be laughable. I wouldn't be able to afford the lifestyle I currently have if I factored in car expenses, when NC properly reopens I will get a monthly transit pass for $88- it is a no brainer. Is not having a car sometimes a nuisance? Yes, absolutely but it is not a hinderance. The only reason I would want a car is to go on trips to the mountains or the beach but, having just reread kermit's post, renting a car when I really need to scratch that itch and get out of Charlotte would work.
  13. Call me when they revive Wachovia.
  14. How much could Wells Fargo save if they did move the HQ here? I can’t imagine it would be much really, unless NC offered some kind of tax break incentives.
  15. Up close the new lights actually improve the building, it kinda looks like neon so makes it even more art deco! From further away, not so much. Either way, that purple is an improvement over the other purple they tried.
  16. It’s very imposing from the Blue Line, the photo doesn’t do it justice, it seemingly looms over the train.
  17. So Madrid and Dublin are still in the schedule for next summer whilst Paris, Rome, Barcelona have been removed. This would indicate that AA does plan to run MAD and DUB at this present moment.
  18. I was worried they had VE’d the sloped roof, thank goodness they haven’t. That said, it doesn’t look as dramatic an angle but still looks good! Shame about the height though. They also appear to have got rid of that weird textured box thing facing Tryon. And, from this Brit living here in Charlotte, Happy Traitors’ Day!
  19. It’s an on site power station kinda thing. I don’t know if it’s actual electricity generation but it’s something to do with power.
  20. They’ve been good performers, especially Dublin. But I’m surprised about Rome, that was the summer cash cow for Charlotte TATL as far as I knew. I guess when demand picks back up that’s the route that will be added back first, the only one I don’t see returning anytime soon is Barcelona. I’d be happy with both DUB and MAD returning considering the circumstances. People on a.net think the sky has fallen for Charlotte
  21. I think this just sums it up: I was at Smelly Cat this morning to get out of my apartment and I was the only person wearing a mask, it’s a piece of cloth... just wear one
  22. ^ Pipped me to the post, I definitely have mixed feelings, although I am leaning towards relief that we won't have the protests/violence/division, association with whatever the f' the Republican Party has become, and people who believe COVID is a hoax so won't wear masks etc. The blame lands solely on the Republicans. What Cooper did was totally right and justifiable (and don't come at me with the whole 'he went to a BLM protest' because protesting for basic f'ing rights is a lot more important and if you can't see the purpose of the protests, you need to reevaluate your privilege), this could have all been avoided if Republicans just agreed to masks and distancing (complete overreaction to basic concepts) but hey it's Trump and Dear Leader can't backtrack on his psycho ramblings.
  23. It appears that SOM are involved as the architects, if so this is gonna be HUGE! I remember how excited I was for the Little proposal but I think that is going to be blown out of the water.
  24. Thoughts? I am very angry in general at what has happened recently so the following is me ranting really. Honestly, I have absolutely no confidence in the police and Tariq's tweets have made me lose a lot of respect for him (in fact, I view him very much as a slimeball now). The police have every opportunity to do the right thing every day and, on multiple occasions in multiple cities, they have failed: people have been murdered by the police so if they're not going to change themselves then they need to be forced to change. It is also an extremely privileged position to nitpick how and why changes should be made, especially when people are hurting across the country. The way CMPD operations entrenches the system of oppression that perpetuates racism/inequality in our community, especially if any changes are resisted. For example, the incident on June 2, in which CMPD boxed in protestors yet claimed it was not their intention (https://medium.com/@Jeff_Jackson/review-of-incident-in-charlotte-on-4th-street-on-the-evening-of-june-2nd-2963d4598500), that is either a. incompetence or b. bullcrap, either way there is no reason what so ever why CMPD should have acted the way they did. I also want to comment on how Tariq shared a latter from spouses of CMPD officers: again, I am repulsed by the fact that talking about how shocked they are at everything that has happened recently but then implore use to consider what the CMPD think/do. GTFO... CMPD has failed multiple times (not just recently but most notably with Keith Lamont Scott) and those officers chose to be cops and willing participate in an institution that contributes to systematic racism in this country. Their letter talks about the emotional toll their spouses undergo, well what about the emotional toll of the families of people murdered by police? That said, I do feel for families of murdered police officers because no one in this country should be killed for no good reason and many cops are decent people but, if you equate the looting/riots with the entire BLM protests, then bad cops are equated with the entire police force. Why can bad cops get away with murder and other abuses of power? The letter reeks of privilege and initially reads as a meek attempt to sympathise with what has happened before completely missing the point of the protests. Warren vs D.C. states that police have no specific legal duty to protect the public so the argument that CMPD 'serves and protects' is rendered mostly pointless. Police should not be an omnipresent, omnipotent force yet they are: I am fully in favour of splitting up CMPD into more appropriate law enforcement departments. "Abolish the police" does not mean no law enforcement nor advocates for anarchy, it a shorthand way of saying there are potentially better alternatives, such as social workers or mental health professionals. Black Lives F'ing Matter so it's time Charlotte starts acting like they do. As a city we do not have a good history when it comes to race relations, I would like to emphasise Dorothy Counts and Keith Lamont Scott, so we should push for transformative change that leads the nation. We need law enforcement that people trust and respect, with those principles being mutual.
  25. What the hell is wrong with this city sometimes? We complain that there’s no history nor culture, then tear down our remaining history and culture.
