  1. What about all the contracts signed? I remember when there was talking last year of the city cancelling the convention but it was a grey area due to contracts that wouldn’t stand up legaly
  2. I wouldn’t mind the RNC being here, God knows we could visit the economic injection from it, but I do not want a full convention here. By all means have the RNC here but, to have so many people flooding in, I have my concerns. As for this whole Trump debacle, are we really surprised?
  3. https://www.routesonline.com/news/38/airlineroute/291421/american-airlines-schedules-777-300er-raleigh-london-service-in-w20/ Raleigh, of all places (!!), is getting AA’s 777-300ER! I know it’s stupid but it makes me mad that Raleigh (!!) is getting AA’s flagship. We don’t see it, nor does PHL or ORD. Even if it’s to rotate an AC, I would have guessed that either us or PHL would see it before RDU.
  4. One company I don’t here much about is TIAA, they’re headquartered in NYC and their bank subsidiary in Jacksonville but have a presence in University. Seem like they’d be a good fit for a HQ relocation to Charlotte, they’re F500 but not as prestigious as Morgan Stanley. As for foreign banks, I think we could land Deutsche Bank or Commerzbank fairly easily, or even Allianz. We got year round flights to Frankfurt and Munich.
  5. Please go and vote down ballot though! You'd probably vote Republican down ballot, which wouldn't be my cup of tea as someone who leans left, but please participate in democracy. As someone who cannot vote in this country, I implore you to at least exercise your constitutional rights for some races.
  6. Dublin was a 200 though. I know AA has more 777s but I'm surprised that we got the 777 rather than PHL, IMO it would have made more sense for us to get the 787 and PHL get the 777. The 787-9 is the closest match to the -300 and the commonality with the -8 would have made sense for a smaller INTL network where a multiple fleet base doesn't make sense. I would hazard a guess that the route planners simply ran a straight switch within the system, some sort of coding that replaced the 330s rather than them going through each route. If PHL gets the 787 on BCN, there is no way we're getting BCN on the 777 so this is not final.
  7. I know this isn't really the right place for this but I am looking to rent a room/takeover a lease on a short-term basis etc. from the middle of June, so any help anyone? I am looking to move back to Charlotte, as I had to go back to the UK for a little bit a while ago and now I can't wait to get back to CLT. I have gotten no where with different groups on FB!
  8. Totally agree! Charlotte Town makes me think its a team based in Charlottetown, PEI in Canada. Charlotte Royal makes sense with the practice of Real in Europe, I'd even go for Royal Charlotte (à la Real Madrid).
  9. Who knew that all it would take for this project to really get going was a global pandemic and an economic downturn!
  10. Bye-bye 332s, they won't come back. By 2022, AA would have taken delivery of more 787s. On a pessimistic note, I don't think this bodes well for our TATL routes, as not every TATL flight from CLT could realistically take the 772. I was envisioning something like LHR x2, MUC, FRA, CDG, MAD, and possibly DUB next summer on a mix of 772 and 332s but that seems unlikely. I am going to seriously miss the A330s, I first flew on one in 2007 to LGW. That was my return flight after my first ever trip to the USA, I flew into RDU on an American 772 so going to be weird to see them here for me.
  11. This. Potentially unpopular opinion but I hate working from home and much prefer going into the office. At home, it’s much more difficult to separate work and personal; at the office, at least when I leave I am pretty much done for the day. There’s also a social element, I like my coworkers and enjoy getting to see them: working from home is kinda lonely. I do think there is going to be greater flexibility with working from home being more common but I don’t think it will replace going into offices. What I do think this pandemic has taught companies is that you don’t need to travel; things like zoom has shown that meetings can been done virtually so I think business travel may take a hit.
  12. Great shot @JetBlueCLT! That 777 is here for familiarisation, as the schedule change that was loaded over night shows 777 service on both London and Munich! Going to be very weird seeing 777 here. I am a little surprised AA didn't decide to introduce the 787-9 as a replacement for the 333, as the 789 is a much closer match to the 333 in terms of seating configs. 333 has 291 seats, 789 has 285 seats, and 772 has 273; the number of business class seats is more similar between the 333 (28) and 789 (30), whilst the 772 has 37- so the 772 is a bit more premium than what we are used to, with more premium seats in a lower number of total seats. But what do I know, I am not a revenue manager nor network planner.
  13. Well, the death rate in Sweden is actually increasing and it’s increasing more rapidly than neighboring countries. In a similar vein, hospitalisations are increasing more rapidly, as shown by this graph: So there is controversy in Sweden about their approach, however it initially looked as though it was working because Sweden (like most of Europe and I am European so have extensively travelled across Europe): •Is more disciplined: Swedes actually conform to government advice about social distancing and isolation. •Has a better social safety net: any infected workers would receive much better welfare, which is also much easier to claim, than they would here in the US; they do not have to worry about isolating nor have to go in for a pay check. This state support means infected people do not have to go outside, reducing the spread. •And has much better and much more affordable healthcare: Swedes do not have to worry about their treatment so do not put off going to the hospital, which means COVID patients are actually triaged and the focus can be on them; it also allows for more testing.
  14. It could have been avoided; if the Trump administration actually listened to the briefings and scientific opinion in January (which were ignored), the US could have had a much quicker and more effective response to coronavirus that would not have necessitated the current situation. Think greater testing and better PPE provisions, both of which would have curbed it a lot quicker. The economic catastrophe is the result of negligence and ignorance earlier in the pandemic, that the US would be spared so there would be no need to worry or prepare for coronavirus; the opposite happened and has forced this response.
  15. I have lived in the United States for 13 years now and I still hate the name of Fifth Third Bank. Sounds like they can't do math!
  16. Yes, that’s what I initially said a few pages back. More than enough for both CLT and Philly (especially when you throw in the 78s). Starting to feel like the good ol’ days with our one flight to London and one flight to Germany. Hey at least they can refurbish the FIS more easily now.
  17. ^Sad but expected. On an interesting and confusing note, DFW-Munich is listed in both the resumption and suspended sections. The difference in dates re London is somewhat concerning. On LHR, any insight into whether the 333 retirements are with immediate effect? If so, I’d guess 332. With the apparent low demand on LHR, a BA 787-8 might be a better fit on the second flight with only 214 seats compared to 291 on the 333 or 247 on the 332. Or an AA 787-8 with 234 might work? I personally don’t expect all the flights to come back next summer but who really knows. AA appears to imply that they will at least load all the expected flights into the system but we shall see where demand is at.
  18. As of today, this summer we're keeping CLT-London x2 and CLT-Munich; everything else- including Frankfurt to my surprise- has been cut. FRA returns in November. It would not surprise me if our summer schedule next year is LHR x2, FRA and MUC alone; MAD, CDG and DUB could be added back if demand springs back fairly quickly. By the looks of it, with the exception of LHR and MAD, AA is selecting one hub to fly to Euro destinations: so CLT has been favoured for Munich and DFW for Frankfurt. Some destinations like Prague have been cut completely and the new flights won't start.
  19. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/truist-completes-purchase-truist-center-201500342.html?guccounter=1&guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbS8&guce_referrer_sig=AQAAAEn5d6yLvnABNXd4KT0CRFwx5Eo92KZXvgpFGFul_XwE99gkRMvl6-9tBU4lizZ2aTVESwApfaNnqVvMKMAfT1YJwbcdfa6UmlkC6ymhTSDt2F6ntzeGFTPXdBDE9Jza2k2jw7BA0dV0RedKi-PP2Lqxjv2f8nqxZwxnRQYnXqK1 Truist Completes Purchase of Truist Center So I guess it's Truist Center now!
  20. It was about conditions for a bailout, which I fully support. And I far as I can tell, albeit googling for about 5 minutes, I can't find anything about windmills that was proposed; the main thing considered as pork was the condition of airlines cutting emissions, which I think is a sensible thing if you're going to chuck money at something. Although I do agree with your insinuation that it shouldn't be a priority, I think conditions such as no stock-buy-backs or bonuses is a good idea. What do you think about the Republicans' $500 billion "slush fund" though? See, two edged sword, not just Pelosi.
  21. Good discussion starting point! I think it’s more likely that CLT will see all 332s and that Philly will see more 787s to cover that. PHL has a 787 base already (being?) established so makes in my eyes. I also think CLT-Barcelona is a goner, potentially CLT-Rome too. Both gone for 2021 (BCN more so than FCO) at least, but who knows if demand will return by 2022. Maybe the second London is dropped temporary until demand picks up but there are strict restriction on slot sitting ? I think either Lufthansa or AA will drop Munich but not both, I think Lufthansa dropping it as more likely. I think AA will consolidate Germany out of Charlotte, I don’t think they’d be willing to completely close MUC. So London, Dublin, Madrid, Paris, Frankfurt and Munich, all on 332s. We’re not going to be the only casualties and I think we might get off scot-free compared to some hubs, I think Chicago and Philly will so more cuts in numerical terms. In terms of other hubs, I agree about Casablanca, Berlin and Dubrovnik being dropped. I think Prague and Budapest will be consolidated to just Philadelphia. I’ll probably have a deeper think on it and probably add some more.
  22. As someone who is British, I am so happy that Grand Designs is getting some American recognition! haha I highly recommend The Marvellous Mrs Maisel and One Day At A Time!
  23. I am pretty sure I remember seeing a photo of a helicopter lifting things to the top of One FU, I'll try to find it.
