  1. Wow...there's been a few new additions Unfortunately....many that are gone. The old City Hall is standing...must have been demolished soon after this pic. Good to see SCN building standing...gone in 1975. The Peoples Bank (later BOA) building wasn't built (1973)....notice how small trees were for Church /Cleveland St exit. Many changes....thanks for sharing. A lot of 'construction' happened on Max's watch as well....
  2. Where's the guard tower? They could use a tower crane to add one...or more.
  3. Anyone know water depth through that area?
  4. LOL...they'll find a way to include an Olive Garden for a peon as me.
  5. Gosh this topic is getting interesting...enjoying reading comments from the sideline and learning how many ways to examine, dissect, analyze, interpret, inspect, scrutinize, & debate a new development.
  6. If it's Disney...hope they add neat rides plus Mickey & Minnie meandering around posing for pics. Of course....Goofy too.
  7. Has the large tract of land at corner of E. Broad & Main across the street from Camperdown Plaza been designated for a new development? I read something a while back and wondered if something was brewing now. TIA...
  8. Thanks for providing the link....could see a clone of the Ottaray Hotel being built downtown. It should be a tad bit taller of course
  9. While the exterior of the the Woodside (SCN) building was appealing...interior was a mess (per couple friends that worked there). There had been few renovations...doubt a developer (during mid-70s) could have been recruited to pay $millions to renovate/preserve a 50+ year old structure for future investment opportunities....would probably have to be completely gutted. I'm sorry it's gone but understand circumstances why it was not preserved for future use. I wish the Ottaray Hotel could have been saved/renovated...glad the Poinsett Hotel was!
  10. Unbelievable...NYC must be really hurting after this long period of isolation and shutdown. It will take a very long while to recover.
  11. Gotta be included in that big pot of stimulus money...you know, the one that includes all that free $$$ for stuff that has little to do with covid relief.
  12. This turned out to be purty nice . I like the new sidewalks leading to the bridge/park. With the completion of the Grand Bohemian there will be lots of foot traffic all around that whole vicinity of downtown.
  13. I'm puzzled why you're referring to a tax bill from 2017. That tax bill actually stimulated the economy...making it stronger & enabling you & many other non-millionaires to increase their wealth. Many new companies & jobs were created preparing the country to ride the pandemic in a stronger fiscal position...that is a fact. The issue is massive excessive SPENDING (actually borrowing) included in a new stimulus bill that funds Democrat liberal causes/programs that are not covid related. It is documented in the bill....not fake news. I'm not against spending $$$ for the many that have suffered from the pandemic....it is irresponsible to take advantage of a (pandemic) situation with excessive spending that likely saddles our grandchildren's future with massive tax increases...just to pay the interest on borrowed $$$.
  14. There was not much complaining from hardly anyone on both sides...Trump stimulus $$ was approved (bipartisan support) & went for (the most part) Covid related concerns. I have no issues with those expenditures...they were a necessity. My concerns are with the new (stimulus) bill that Democrats are shamefully taking advantage of a pandemic situation by piling on billions more spending for their liberal programs & causes that are not Covid related. I'm sorry you do not see this...it is documented in the bill and not fake news. BTW....I understand a sizeable portion of $$$ in earlier bills remains unspent. Someday we won't be able to afford the interest payments for all this borrowed $$$. Hope the great grands graciously accept the huge tax increases they will face. To be honest...I believe this country is doomed now...a precedent has been cast and we'll likely attempt to borrow/spend our way out of another pandemic situation such as this. It may wreck the economy...be even more difficult to return to a 'normal' that will likely be complex.
  15. We now have a federal government that's interested in shelling out billions of dollars that has everything to do with furthering their liberal agenda & pet projects...nothing to do with a pandemic. It does not matter the national debt must be paid in the future by our great grandchildren...I imagine they won't be as grateful as you are. I was never employed with a business or company started and operated by welfare recipients...those wicked wealthy people can be pathetic sometimes.
  16. The site is destined to be designated as an historical site....one of those big plaques marking it.
  17. Hold the glee....they're just preparing the site for all of that....to grow back again.
  18. I traveled up the middle of NC towards the W-S & Greensboro vicinity last week....they have the same litter issues. Main road arteries usually appear pretty clean...not this time.
  19. The cat is probably out of the bag....they're coming to live in this beautiful and prosperous region. We'll be OK...there's some infrastructure additions/requirements on the horizon (Greenville area) ...taxes will inevitably rise more than we like.
  20. Careful....it may be a trick. Trying to give the impression that something positive is about to happen.
  21. But I like the dilapidated green fence hiding the Gateway site...it's also falling down and looks hideous. It should be a local landmark...receive a special historical plaque
  22. Thanks Spartan....it's troubling there's nothing listed on (tentative) list to resurface roads in Greenville or Spartanburg Counties...or majority of upstate SC for that matter. I know we must be patient due to the sorry shape of roads...but there's many roads that are poor/crappy and it appears now it will be a long while before anything happens in our area. Frustrating....
