  1. Because I voted for candidates in my state district doesn't mean those elected from my state district received votes from me. I happen to be a proponent for this project, but your statement seems to say it doesn't matter as I get what I get because of who represents me....that's an entirely different conversation, and I wouldn't presume to know who you voted for based upon an undescriptive and indirectly related comment. You're right, is fair, and that was my point...that even though I reside outside of Davidson County, I have the right to discuss this project as state money is being used.
  2. Some of y'all didn't take a ton of accounting in school, or any even, and it shows.....not to be too argumentative, but the apparent additional use planned for this particular all-purpose building would realistically generate more revenue (FOR ERR'BODY) than a building used less than twenty-five times per year. I think you would agree to state the above contention rather in terms of revenues over expenditures,; that's a different argument, if not, my bad.
  3. Buc-ee's are the Texas version...a bit doughy, but like you, I grab a bunch and take them home to freeze. Shipley Do-Nuts on Lebanon Rd and Fox's Donut Den on Hillsboro Pike in Nashville along with Best Donuts in Gallatin. Off topic, but speaking of Czech goodness, I recently scored some Czechvar from Total Wine in Brentwood....so good, next time I should wash down a kolache with a Czechvar!
  4. Public universities don't approach the state for funding dormitories or any other buildings; they submit proposals annually for consideration by THEC, Tennessee Higher Education Commission, for public funds. THEC chooses which proposals go forward and the governor selects based upon his budget priorities then the legislature approves the governor's proposed budget with or without amendments (usually mostly intact) . However, TSU could be lobbying for a special appropriation for consideration in the 2023-24 budget, but typically, dorms are paid for by local and or student housing revenue. But...2025 would be aggressive and not possible through the SBC, State Building Commission, process if asking for funding in the 2023-24 budget. So, the approach to the state could be related to the $250 million for Strategic Initiatives in capital outlay funds TSU received in the 2022-23 budget (with more to come it appears). Could it be that TSU has earmarked this funding for dormitories and is approaching the SBC for intiation of those projects? The realization from proposal to building does move slowly (as it is planned years in advance from master plans)....not just for TSU, but for all public colleges and universities.
  5. I am out of kolaches, stopping by Buc-ees Tuesday for sure. Kolaches are available in Lebanon at both local donut shops and several places in Middle Tennessee; however, they're nonexistent in Cookeville.
  6. Not sure this has been posted elsewhere; WSMV piece on a possible future skyline rendering. Credit given to Urban Planet.
  7. Came back through yesterday...had noticed previously, but wow....feels like I could jump directly into this ceiling without a running start, and my vertical jump isn't what it once was.
  8. There are three parking garages included in the master plan...off the top of my head. The first was slated to go to construction in FY23.....but something may have put that on hold.
  9. This will be the 2nd rooftop bar; Cookeville's first is at the new full-service Holiday Inn on S. Willow.
  10. Nope; three of the last four built have fixed roofs: US Bank in Minneapolis; Allegiant in Las Vegas and SoFi in Los Angeles (canopy). Edit: Page broke so I didn't see the comment regarding this...but it isn't the last three, it's three of the last four that have opened.
  11. I was 840,257, and boy are my arms tired. Seriously, got back in late in the afternoon yesterday....wow was it crowded. Ole Red was hopping. I hadn't flown since January, and was confused again with the nomenclature changes...FYI the Terminal Garage is now Terminal Garage #2....the wayfinding signage wasn't entirely helpful either.
  12. It did better than okay and did well until Opry Mills opened (agreed). I was over there last month...the food court shockingly has a tenant for a few days/week. I believe there are less than ten stores remaining.
  13. There 's a new house on our side of town, infill on an established street, that was finished and purchased within the last year....in my family we call it the BMW House. There are at least seven (I have counted eight) BMWs in the drive/garage at most times. Story is they too packed up for some California Leavin'. We have a lot of folks here in Cookeville and the UC that have made the trek across the country from California. It seems almost everyone knows someone new from California who chose to reside here; I work with a person who cashed in five years ago in Northern California and resettled....he and his family love it in Tennessee. It's crazy...a California diaspora focused to Tennessee. The person on the article above called it the new American Dream...to live in Tennessee. Maybe not, but certainly could be the Californian Dream.
  14. Perhaps this Ren Faire will have booze.
  15. RIP Terminal Brewhouse; the owners had publicly discussed closing due to the lease situation...greener grass lessee apparently.
  16. The Y'alls arent Triple A; they're independent league. They play in Florence Y'all...not far from the Florence Mall...go Red Legs!
  17. With St. Louis unquestioned at #4...PROVEL!
  18. Proverbial apples and oranges take from a fund accounting perspective: if an entertainment district were developed, with private investment as well, to produce sales tax revenue to pay for upgrades or a new stadium, those revenues would not exist without the new stadium or the upgrades. The city would not be taking funds from the general fund prioritizing the Titans over sidewalks, education, police or a million other things that matter more. A negative might be a reduction in the city's borrowing power or any liability outside restricted/dedicated sales tax revenue from the entertainment district.
