  1. I'm concerned about the size of that riverboat. It's too big to turn around safely in the river. Somebody's going to get hurt.
  2. Just emailed him. He is an attentive council member and an ex officio member of the GBID board so I sure I'll hear something soon.
  3. Epiphany, an interior design shop on 8th Avenue S across from Carter Vintage Guitars, has a 'Moving Sale' sign in the window, another sign that the triangle of six properties there (not yet given a name on UP) is moving toward consolidation and eventual development. The antique mall next door closed on May 31.
  4. That sidewalk is far busier than the one across the street because of all the restaurants and shops and the connection to downtown via 8th Avenue S. Doesn't builder have to get permission to close the sidewalk? Where would I find out about that?
  5. Demo Plus trailer backed up to the front door. This is a good sign. There hasn't been activity in that building in many months.
  6. Congrats, @PaulChinetti! If we see a little less of you on UP for the near term, we'll know why.
  7. There's four acres of sedum on the roof and solar panels cover the inside of the 'guitar body' on the roof.
  8. Currently enjoying the Ulrich Schnauss catalog, again.
  9. The sign on the old Thai Esane building says King Siam, or something like that, though I don't know if it's open. I see a lot of construction and restaurant equipment in the space at Element Music Row, but it still looks like they're weeks away from being finished.
  10. Spot on, @nashvylle. While I haven't read the bond docs (they can easily go to 200+ pages), I'm sure that any changes to the conditions in them could trigger a technical default. This would be bad, very bad. Big developers would suddenly stay away from the city, shutting down the pipeline of big announcements. Lawsuits would drain our coffers for years to come. We would greatly reduce our ability to provide services to current residents. And on and on and on. It's an example of what Bill Clinton meant when he said, early in his first administration, "You mean all my policies are subject to a bunch of f------ bond traders?" To quote the book of Proverbs, the borrower is servant to the lender.
  11. Born and raised in Mobile, I visit often to see family. A port city of any size has a slight cosmopolitan feel. Lots of water (Mobile is the rainiest city in the U.S. receiving over 66" per year). Beautiful trees, old homes and buildings. Fantastic seafood. Close to New Orleans and the white sand beaches that start at Gulf Shores and go east. And I've never seen any sight that compares to the azaleas in bloom here. No wonder it's called the Azalea City.
  12. I echo @jmtunafish's request that you keep us updated about this documentary and where we might see it, if you know. Can't wait to see this!
  13. https://www.krakencycleboats.com We need a few of these - peddle party boats. Saw these in Tampa last week.
  14. Looks like a curvy version of Gort. If you see light in the eye opening, RUN!!!
  15. The Assemblies of God continue to counter that trend, experiencing over 25 consecutive years of growth in the U.S. With over 70 million members worldwide (over 3 million in the U.S.) it is the largest Protestant denomination in the world, and growing.
  16. W Hotel site from above. The tint came from the window by the elevators at LA Jackson (Thompson Hotel rooftop lounge).
  17. Have been looking at my checkbook? My wife and I have realized that we will not be going back to a big house soon so we are Kondo-ing our way to less stuff. "Does this item spark joy in you?"
