  1. I'd rather the money go towards a MLS stadium than a strip center, Laquinta Inn, and field house at Bojangles. The city has enough low end big box retailers why would they include this in the proposal. Im assuming this is the case because of the poor demographics surrounding Bojangles. Can we say boondoggle.
  2. I don't think NC is really in the running with our economic development teams influx and the GOP led state which dislikes incentives. I feel like we won't really be able to give it a real shot at this time. My guess is Everett or Missouri
  3. Kinston is the least likely place of all in contention to get this. No way Boeing goes there. It's pure absurdity to even discuss it. No talent would want to go there. Ill be even more sick I voted for McCrory if they waste time trying to convince Boeing to go to Kinston over Charlotte. Just to appease the rural vote. Complete boondoggle!!!
  4. If we could land MLS I'd be set. I'd rather have MLS over NHL or MLB. Hopefully, something good can come from this. Dortmund FC Mecklenburger!!!
  5. Wow that was a little quicker than I imagined. That is a great site. I hope the buyer will add another transformative project to the block. Maybe a new mini retail cluster combined with the crescent project..... Maybe even a small stroll district. Another point to note now maybe the observer can go to Grubb, Crescent, or Portman and help get one of their spec office buildings off the ground since they will need new space. My guess is the Portman deal.
  6. If the state level tax credits are removed this idea should die as well. The only reason we have a healthy movie industry right now is the state level tax credits. So I'm more interested in seeing what the state does.
  7. I'd like a W. The apartment boom didn't particularly hit downtown too much. However it seems we are hearing faint whispers of what soon might be a hotel boom downtown. I think if everything comes to fruition we would add about a 1,000 rooms and to think I wanted the convention hotel. Glad I wasn't a decision maker on that issue.
  8. First Ward Park to finally start? A department store downtown, Belk? Only two things that come to mind. If not a flashy new building.
  9. Does anyone know if any of the grocery stores actually plan on taking advantage of this? It would be great to be able to get a growler filled at Harris Teeter, like you can in other states. Call me cynical but I bet the chains will have to be bugged a lot to consider doing this. I know Whole Foods in SC do this and it's great, much more convient than going to the brewery. 10. I don't think this has been stated yet?? I have seen marketing for the Mercury and it has 37,000 SF of retail now. This is great news and i think I will be pretty easy to fill as it will blend seamlessly with Main Street NODA. Unless this is an old brochure? It must be old Nevermind
  11. Unnamed apartment complex by Grubb Properties, next to Morrison has started. This is not the 12-story rezoning project. This project is 4 or 5 stories at the corner of Colony Road and Sharon Township Lane.
  12. Any update on this? I'm starting to wonder if the company that would have occupied the office space pulled out. I always figured the project need some kind of tenant signed to get the project off the ground. I have no inside knowledge. Our downtown needs some infill badly. Hoping to hear some good news. I voted for Pat, but I swear locally things have gone quite with him in charge.
  13. Any update on this? I'm looking forward to more than just Childress Klein and Embassy Suites under construction downtown.
  14. Any word on the Lennar project? I thought this project would be moving by now. I think this project will really change the landscape around midtown and set a precedent for more urban projects. This along the announced apartments near CMC will really add to the urban portion of the greenway. This might be the catalyst for more infill along Kings Drive. Which looks vastly superior than it did circa 94.
  15. Once again why do we have the PED if you can just shortcut through leasing offices and amenity space for tenants. We need a more strict zoning ordinance. This spot should HAVE retail. I'm getting sick of all these poorly built stick apartments, with no concern for their surrounding.
  16. Someone correct me if I'm wrong? But I think the Raleigh Skyhouse was riddled with delays. This compounded with the fact that the same crew goes from site to site for ground breaking. I'd think its just a hold up caused by poor planning and unexpected delays. At least that's what I'm hoping. It would be a great project that I'm sure would work well here.
  17. Too draw the line further. You put both bridges at each end point of the future highway cap. That way, it sets some precedent for the future. Then in 10-20 years you have a more realistic shot of acquiring the cap.
  18. The cheaper option is simple. Build a few/2 pedestrian bridges that only allow bikes and people that are fully caged. NO CARS!! Denver and Minneapolis have these along with many other cities. While these aren't as friendly for a pedestrian as a highway cap, they sure as hell beat the two access points from South End today. You build two pedestrian points now, it builds some synergy for the future and makes the cap more realistic down the line. Plus, you get an access point to downtown without having cars shoot by at 2 feet away. Which is absolutely uninviting for a pedestrian. Win-Win
  19. The area needs an intervention, it is completely squandering any chance it had at being a TOD area. Guess its the same old junk we have come to expect gated suburban apartments, big box, car dealerships, and sprawly starter homes. It's like going in a time warp to the early 90's. Other than the students who will ride this to campus. In my mind the line is done at NODA. The rest of the line will not bring any real TOD past NODA. Expect more of the same.
  20. Anyone have any idea on when the Embassy Suites will break ground? I think this is a good looking hotel. If all the proposed hotels get built we will be close to 1000 rooms added. Without the addition of the new convention center hotel. Which I had been in favor of. Glad the city took the approach to allow it to take place organically. If the proposed 400 room hotel happens I think it might be over 1000 added. These proposals will help the city recruit better events/sporting events. Hopefully, we land the NBA All Star game in a few years with these hotels coming online.
  21. Don't really know where to put this. Is the Lennar apartment complex in Midtown still a go? I would have thought this would have broken ground by now.
  22. Site work has begun on the Grubb apartment site, at Morrison.
  23. Any update on the knight office/hotel building? With Spectrums announcement for podium parking nearby, I'm nervous that cost engineering would do the same to this site. Anyone in the know if that's a possibility? Ricky, the big announcement you've hinted about near Greens and the park getting any closer to an announcement? Or is this one shelved. The Spectrum project is a huge letdown. At this point downtown still needs bodies, which will in turn bring more retail. The thing is if we allow 20 or so Spectrums it could really hurt downtown in the long run. I think all the new apartment projects announced or underconstruction have ground level/podium parking. No good.
  24. Anyone think the starter line will get any redevelopment of First Ward Going? Some/most of the development along Trade Street is under utilized to be on the future Gold Line.
  25. Any updates from anyone in the know about the Crescent project? Also any updates on the knight stadium office/hotel project? I'd have thought a rendering would be released by now.
