  1. Looks like they may resort to tunneling the Durham-Orange light rail thru the ATC corridor: https://www.wral.com/tunnel-could-be-solution-to-move-durham-orange-light-rail-project-forward/18065756/ I have to say that I'm impressed at how dedicated everyone is to this project. They are going as far as throwing it underground in this one area to keep things moving. Hope it keeps up with the momentum as we head toward a 2020 groundbreaking with this. #fingerscrossed
  2. I understand not wanting to sell because of potentially not finding an equivalent nearby, but man would I hate to be that 1 person that didn't sell. You'll literally have 50 other people breathing down your neck every time you set foot outside your door. No thanks.
  3. Wow, that's super awesome.
  4. While I agree to an extent, I don't really have the same gripes with Hillsborough Street. Every street can't be auto-centric and Hillsborough really should cater more toward pedestrians. It's unfortunate that upgrades to infrastructure can't all happen at once, but I'd rather them do it when they can than not at all. If anything I feel like Hillsborough Street is rather painless now to get through. I used to swear a lot more traveling through there before the rework.
  5. I think there's only so much he can do as he doesn't exactly own Six Forks Road. At one point there was talk of a tunnel between the two North Hills under Six Forks and I even think I remember seeing it on a plan somewhere. No idea what happened.
  6. I know it won't happen, but there's a part of me that really really hopes that cute little retail strip remains standing.
  7. Those are kind of cute. Looks like "mostly" brick on the outside.
  8. Wait what? Those are the same buildings? How is this allowed? The updated ones look cookie cutter crap.
  9. Found it: http://www.raleighnc.gov/content/PlanDev/Documents/DevServ/DevPlans/Reviews/2018/SiteReview/SR-105-18.pdf
  10. I really despise the sea of parking right at the entrance there. I wish they'd pulled the Wegmans closer to the street and built a deck behind it that was faces with apartments/hotel/retail.

    One Glenwood

That's truly a shame. That gas station is awesome. Character being paved over. It's like a weird repeat of when neighborhoods/houses got paved over for parking lots for state government.
  12. They'd be smart to. Kane knows how to execute and deliver on projects for what it's worth.
  13. I mean that's cool and all but I feel like this is murdering another NCSU staple which is East Village. Pour one out for my college years. Sadlacks is long gone and now East Village. Guess that just leaves Mitchs and Players Retreat.
  14. Random, but it'd be nice if something interesting could happen to that odd triangular island of grass at West and Peace now. If anything, bury that cluster-f of powerlines and poles.
  15. To be fair though, the Plensa idea had a lot of flaws. I remember going to a talk given by some downtown Raleigh planners which changed my perspective on it a few years back. On the surface the Plensa stuff was all nice and shiny and cool. Digging into it though there were apparently too many problems which made it not cost effective.
  16. All the links at the top of their site go to a web form asking for more information, lol.
  17. I might be mistaken here, but I'm pretty sure that line through Carpenter is CSX owned. They even show it on their system map: Source: https://www.csx.com/index.cfm/customers/maps/csx-system-map/ Unrelated, I also remember reading a while back that CSX is willing to entertain leaving the downtown Apex area should the right offer come along from the town (read as: $$$$$$$$$$$). CSX has apparently already moved a lot of their switching operations out of town anyways. Source: http://www.newsobserver.com/news/local/community/southwest-wake-news/article27921826.html
  18. They're trying, albeit at a snails pace: https://www.wral.com/plan-underway-to-reduce-traffic-around-crabtree-valley-mall-/17521765/
  19. You don't, there's a tunnel between the station and the platform(s).
  20. Nice and modern. I wonder what those pylon looking things are in the top-center-ish of the picture are?
  21. Heh wow... that takes out two houses on Garden Place. Although I will admit neither of them are really of any historical/architectural significance. It' s a decent sized development. Site plan: https://www.raleighnc.gov/content/PlanDev/Documents/DevServ/DevPlans/Reviews/2018/SiteReview/SR-035-18.pdf
  22. Broadstone KKD Portfolio LLC (what a name -- rolls right off the toungue, lol) has purchased the Krispy Kreme property in downtown Raleigh. http://www.newsobserver.com/news/business/article208325979.html
  23. Yeah you've really got to give the man credit. He has a vision and when he latches onto an idea he just pushes hard to get what he wants done. It's very admirable and while yes, there are some negatives -- he really spurred changes in this area for helping bridge the suburban/urban divide. He's driving a lot of development and change downtown as well now. He also got the "forever stuck" Valentine Commons project going.
