  1. N&O had an article on this today as well to which Kane is quoted in it as wanting to preserve as much of the current building there as possible, so I'm assuming what is there will somehow be incorporated into the larger building that will be constructed. There was this nice tidbit as well: Read more here: http://www.newsobserver.com/2015/01/14/4475827/kane-realty-seeking-to-redevelop.html?sp=/99/104/#storylink=cpy
  2. I agree that not moving the HQ may be a short term thing. When I first read that, my first thought was that is what they are saying NOW, but it seems to me to be setting up for that to happen down the road. If it does occur, it would be a nice HQ pickup for Raleigh.
  3. A developer has bought the Kidds Hill Plaza site and got the green light for construction of luxury apartments: http://www.bizjournals.com/triangle/blog/2014/06/fein-buys-kidds-hill-plaza-land-for-new-apartments.html
  4. TBJ has an article out today on how it is becoming hip for businesses to locate in downtown Raleigh. I hope this continues the trend of increasing density downtown and helps planned projects get off the ground quicker, in addition to spurring new projects. http://www.bizjournals.com/triangle/blog/2014/03/skyline-buildings-gaining-favor-with-raleigh.html
  5. It's official, the Crabtree Jones house will be moved! The house is being donated to Preservation North Carolina and PNC is buying the house a lot, ensuring that it will be around for a long time to come. http://www.northraleighnews.com/2013/01/29/23779/historic-crabtree-jones-house.html
  6. Didn't want to start a thread just for this and it is technically food-related, so I thought I'd put it here. Publix is now confirmed to be entering the Raleigh market! http://www.bizjournals.com/triangle/morning_call/2012/11/upscale-publix-moving-into-local-market.html
  7. N&O has an article this morning on this. The developer will be paying to have the house moved and be providing captital to have it restored. They are working with local preservationists, according to the article, to find a suitable home for the house. http://www.newsobserver.com/2012/09/19/2354544/raleigh-historic-home-to-be-moved.html
  8. ^ I'd say because there is no Wake Tech campus in that corner, so it is doesn't overlap coverage from their other campuses, so it makes logistical sense.
  9. RDU now has a flight to the Bahamas. The flight is by a carrier new to RDU, Bahama Air: http://www.bizjournals.com/triangle/morning_call/2012/05/rdu-celebrates-flight-to-bahamas.html RDU has also launched a new incentives policy that waives landing fees and funds marketing ($250,000 for domestic routes and $500,000 for international), to get airlines to add new routes. Specific flights RDU names are Seattle, LA, SFO, Paris and Frankfurt. http://www.bizjourna...incentives.html
  10. According to an N&O article, Sheetz is planning a big push into NC, with 30 new stores over the next 3 years in NC, in addition to a distribution center, offices and bakery that they want to build somehwhere between the Triad and Triangle and have open by 2014. I'd imagine that any big push push into NC would include Charlotte at some point. They would be nuts to skip over the area. http://www.newsobserver.com/2011/07/07/1326368/sheetz-has-bigger-plans-in-nc.html
  11. I'd like to see some of the old buildings converted into a medical museum of sorts. NC, in particular the Triangle, has a rich medical history. We have numerous bio-medical companies here, two scools with a great reputation in pharmacy world, a school with world-wide recognition for its vetinary program and on and on. A musuem would be a great partnerhip opportunity between the various levels of government, the schools, hospitals, and area businesses involved in the medical field.
  12. Triangle Business Journal has some really nice pictures up today of the beltline in it's early years, along with Capital blvd: http://www.bizjournals.com/triangle/news/2012/03/13/slideshow-historic-photos-of-major.html?s=image_gallery&img_no=1
  13. Fifth-Third Bank has announced that they are planning an aggressive push into the Triangle and that they are going to be locating a regional HQ in downtown Raleigh: http://www.bizjournals.com/triangle/print-edition/2012/03/09/fifth-third-plots-strong-growth-plans.html
  14. According to an article I found on Pappas, they are expanding into the Raleigh market to take advantage of the booming apartment industry here. Interestingly, this article say: I'm thinking that maybe that is a reference to Kidd's Hill. http://www.charlotte...l#disqus_thread
  15. The Progress-Energy and Duke Energy merger have once again been rejected by Federal Regulators, guaranteeing that it won't get done this year and throwing the whole merger in doubt. Any further modifications to the deal are likely to require a whole new round of hearings with the NC Utilities Commission, throwing the merger even further behind schedule. http://www.newsobserver.com/2011/12/15/1712048/duke-progress-merger-denied-again.html On other news, Martin Marietta has made a hostile bid for Vulcan Materials. According to the CEO, the combined company would be HQ'ed in Raleigh and be the largest in its industry in North America. This would also turn them into another Fortune 500 for Raleigh. Could a downtown HQ be in their future potentially?... http://www.bizjournals.com/triangle/news/2011/12/12/martin-marietta-launches-hostile-bid.html
