The Dillon: Kane's first downtown mixed use project
DPK replied to RALNATIVE's topic in The NC Triangle
Can all ya'll just shutup about politics on here. I come here for development talk, not people's political aspirations. -
I doubt it. The Hurricanes have a pretty good lease deal through 2024 at PNC. People are just jumping to weird conclusions due to the recent talks of Karmanos potentially selling the team. Karmanos has said before that he'd prefer ownership to remain with a local investor regardless of the situation. NHL commissioner Gary Bettman has also stated the team will remain in the Triangle. http://www.newsobserver.com/sports/nhl/carolina-hurricanes/article44283009.html

WeWork has been around for a while. I'd consider them pretty stable.
-
I hope some of that wood and stairs are salvaged.
-
* raises hand * Tell me about it. Makes my heart hurt.
-
That and I think at one point I read how they were extremely stubborn on moving from that location.
-
Yeah I said it in jest but it's actually not that terrible, haha. They could sell 40's of Olde English at the stadium, it'd be perfect.
-
That's so obscure though and doesn't really have any tie in to modern day Raleigh/Triangle things. At that point might as well just call them the Five Forties.
-
Right in the video at the top of the page: http://www.newsobserver.com/news/business/article159865089.html Sorry to crush your hopes and dreams.

They'll be in the RTP: http://www.journalnow.com/business/business_news/local/the-briefcase-infosys-plans--job-technology-hub-in-rtp/article_627eddd5-e94d-5bc4-a84f-c066f1753ea1.html

I think the simple answer is that they want you to see the hotel coming down Glenwood and not a hole into a parking deck. I agree with you though, from traffic point of view it'd make more sense. From a marketing point of view though, not really. All about those $$ bills.

Anyone happen to have TBJ access to this article? http://www.bizjournals.com/triangle/news/2017/05/19/biz-cameron-village-looking-to-go-underground.html

...it wasn't just any death. It was the president of the company. There's all sorts of scenarios that can occur when something like that happens as ownership and decision making changes hands.
-
Yeah I really don't see how they really made it any better of a view coming down Cary Towne Boulevard. There's nothing "urban" at all outside of a parking deck in that corner of the site plan. It's a stereotypical strip mall right there with just a nice facade.
-
Figured that since this is getting to be more likely to happen lately, it deserved its own topic: Sources: http://www.newsobserver.com/news/business/article146287254.html http://www.columbiadevelopment.com/eastern-cary-gateway/

Yeah, from the pictures I've seen of the deck it very well could be a complete demo of the site to earth again. From a liability point of view it wouldn't surprise me if there's just too much structural damage to the concrete and reinforcing rebar to keep it.
-
It kind of makes me wonder why they just don't go ahead and partially tunnel West Street now with there not being any rail running or even existing. I feel like it's just more annoying of a venture to do at a later date. There I go with the crazy logic though I suppose.
-
Yep that's what I meant. Thanks for the other fyi as well, had no idea those restrictions were a thing.
-
I would not be opposed to whomever architect they used going for a Tower 2. I love their building.
-
The project is called Overture Centennial (SR-108-16) and is being developed by Greystar. Looks like it's made up of 3 parcels of land and is going to be roughly 3 stories in height with about 180 units:

Holy snaps that looks awesome and it looks like Flying Saucer lives to see another day.
-
Cary Towne Furniture (briefly in the old Sears space) and Kader Bakery have apparently both closed up shop in the mall. Just tear that place down already.
-
Probably nothing. I'd be willing to bet some designer just wanted a pretty background for those rendering and used what they had really quick.
-
TIL about that weird Ell at Mountford Avenue. That looks so odd on Google Maps. Did that ever connect anywhere or passthru to the prison? What's the story there I wonder.
-
Yeah, I don't think it really matters either. Really the only potential gain I think we could see in terms of connectivity is if one day West Street gets extended toward Cabarrus Street, which had a hefty price tag of around $24 million alone in 2012 dollars. That or accept that never happening and connect the end of West and Davie Streets together, but you might have to take out that lone building at the end of Davie to do it "correctly". Who knows. Fun to think about though. The need for automotive connectivity could become moot if in the next few years some crazy form of travel tech comes about or we all end up sealed in our homes, working remotely due to the zombie apocalypse.
