Here is a pic going into Mount Pleasant this morning. One wreck caused a massive backup.

I worked on the road widening in Mount Pleasant on Jonnie Dodds and a few other large road projects when I moved here from Greenville 8 years ago. While Greenville has a lot of people the layout of Charleston is so different in a not so convenient way. Charleston has the linear east to west commute from Summerville to Mount P. If any thing happens it cripples the other infrastructure. Lots of water also makes it more expensive to build new roads. You must have lots of elevated roadways. It's a challenge I hope the area can overcome but the population boom has not helped. Atlanta is a good teacher that extra lanes dont always work to your advantage. Charlotte did a good job planning its light rail system(dont talk about 485 though lol). It was on the news the other day that Charleston was trying to implement a bus rapid transit system by 2025. Maybe there is hope?

I have never seen anywhere in South Carolina grow like Charleston has since Ive been here the past 8 years. I think its similar to Charlotte in the 90's / early 2000's

Hey bud. Yeah I was absent for quite sometime. When i got done at Clemson I moved to Charleston the same year (2010). Every since then it has been growing like crazy. Ive been through downtown Greenville a few times in the past few years and have also been amazed by the progress. I really miss Greenville sometimes. Guess Im more of a mountain guy then a beach guy but we have to live somewhere.....right? I do know Charleston like the back of my hand now so thats a good thing.

The drive from Mount Pleasant to Summerville everyday has a been a bear since the Wando Bridge went down. I can believe those population figures. Definitely "feels" like it. I was born and raised in Greenville and moved here 8 years ago. Since then the growth has been on hyper drive. I remember Greenville struggling around 56,000 back in the day. Good to see the home town booming.

Ive had a few subcontractors from Charlotte here in Charleston area and they tell me we are building more here right now then in the Charlotte metro.

I will try to snap some updated pics next time on my commute from Ladson into Mount P. Growth is crazy here. Everywhere you look there is construction. I grew up in Anderson, SC and moved here 8 years ago. Pretty wild how fast everything is changing.

I just bought a house south around Ladson so thats good news.

Not seeing Newberry getting added anytime soon. Seems like quite a bit of distance between Columbia and Newberry every time I make the trip from Chas. to Anderson to see family. Much more than between Anderson and Greenville

I deal a lot with utilities now with my type of work, and with what I know about directional boring it would not be to hard to bore the power lines under the sidewalk/behind the sidewalk and have stub outs up into transformers. Just do one section at a time.

I miss the upstate ;-(

Im pretty sure Ive seen activity in this area during my commute to work some mornings. I will take a better look this week.

Exactly, Im from the upstate and moved to Charleston last year for a job. I helped do a lot of work on Riverplace, and I even remember working on the main office bulding there and looking down into the guys small house and pool. These people cant stop progress, its going to happen. They have the same problems down this way with "height" of buildings all around Charleston.....not just downtown and its sickening to me.
