  1. I was reading some articles on how spartanburg really wants to expand out a lot more but you have a stupid 75% law or 100% law that means you have to have that much of the majority your annexing to agree with it. I think NC's is only like 50% of the people plus 1.
  2. I called Access Realty today and asked about the Tower at Falls and Broad. The guy told me that it is still up in the air but was not dead by no means. I wonder if this is true or if its really dead? I would love to see the 350 footer get built but i dont know if it will or not. I want to see some big cranes up before long. I think we all do!!!!! Pinnacle, Camperdown, Peacock will probably all get built and maybe that will add to the market in downtown a little bit so that the Tower at falls and broad can get built. Would love to see something taller than the daniel building. Go on emporis and look at the new RBC Futura building they are going to build in Raleigh. That building is going to be 538 ft tall, and has this lovely outerblue colored exterior.
  3. One thing i didnt tell you guys that we are worried about with the fountain. You all know how we have some bad freezes some times in the winter? Well we have been worried that when water gets down in between the cracks in the rocks that it will freeze and expand popping the rocks off the face of the block. We will just have to wait and see if this actually happens but we have witnessed brick doing this before and cracking them all up. Hopefully nothing bad like this will happen but if it does someone will fix it im sure. When you have water flowing over rock that dont have joints between them its possible for this to occur and i just wanted to let everyone know that didnt already know.
  4. I think why they didnt use real tracks is because little kids could fall and get hurt on them if they used the real thing. I wish they could have made it a little more nice looking as far as the train tracks though. We worked very hard on the fountain to end it with this?. I also dont like the green color too much. I think a fake gravel look would have looked good kind of like you see around the rail road tracks plus it would have matched the rock work better.
  5. I worked on this project alot and there will be no physical tunnel. They might do something tricky with the water but all i heard is the water will shoot to the tunes of the music and what you see is pretty much how it is going to be unless some other minor changes are done. When we first started building this they actually played it by hear and didnt have any good plans too go by. They played a lot of the masonry work on the fountain like this. Kind of funny IMO.
  6. It is supposed to sound like a train comming through a tunnel and the water jets will be synchronized with music playing.

    The Rumor Mill

Yeah my dad which is a superintendent with harper told me this info. One of the superintendents that is at hubble now is going to oversee this developement and my dad talked like it will be probably be next month when you see them doing some grading and getting the site ready for construction. Hopefully some of the buildings will be very impressive and unique or slightly tall. I also meant to mention that i was on the top floor of hubble a month ago and could see the daniel building very good from there. I wish i would have had my digital camera with me but i didnt :-(. -Evan

    The Rumor Mill

I have heard recently that work is about to begin on the site that South Financial Bank will be. I work for The general contractor that did the hubble building and this is what im hearing. The site will be past the new hubble building on 85 after you go under the bridge on the right where a lot of those trees are now. harper has 75% of this development. This is big news to hear for me anyways. This is a big project in the few hundred million dollar range. Guess it wont be long before we start seeing the "power" corridor. Maybe someone should start a south financial construction thread. Be look for some grading equipment in the next month possibly.
  9. I was just looking at the map for greenvilles city limits and i think it is crazy they cannot annex some of the land towards taylors or pendleton street. Those areas are very close to the main downtown. They have annexed a lot toward hubble and icar though. I imagine that will boost the population quit a bit plus youll have the residential at the new publix beside the 29 bridge comming into downtown and also out on woodruff road at magnolia town square. Not to mention all the new condos being built in various places. I like to see the density starting to take hold here in greenville. Hartford, connecticut is a similiar city as for as annexation goes. Their city limits are very small like greenville's but their county population is i think about 800,000 give or take a few.
  10. I was reading something about augusta, georgia. I believe it said augusta and richmond county consolidated together in 1996. I think augusta is in richmond county but i might be wrong.
  11. Hey guys i personally helped build that fountain :-). I love having my hand in things of this magnitude. Im a mason by the way in case none of you knew. We did all the block work that is supporting all the rock work. We gave the stone layers a guide to go by. Also Riverplace and river house i helped put the brick on. Its neat to see it all come together now. sigh -Evan
  12. So maybe the guy was right about it just being parking lots for now. Are they planning on tearing that old building down that is between academy and river street though to make more room for the bigger office building that is going over there? My dad tells me that used to be an old ice house.
  13. They do appear to be doing some grading where the phase 3 buildings should be. I asked the guy running the huge packing machine what was going there and he told me parking lots. That doesnt match up with what the picture shows though. The path way is now completed as you can tell from rested travelers pictures. I do know buildings are going where the people are grading now. It could just be a temporary place to move the office trailers and equipment while they get some more of that dirt out of there. -Evan
  14. While i was at work today working at the riverplace building i noticed the restaurant platform that is going to be on the terrace side. It should be pretty cool when these two restaurants are working. The water fountain had a leak on it the other day and water was actually leaking out of the walls. Fortuanetly it was only a leak in the water proofing and they were able to take care of that quickly. Im sure you already know that the water fountain is going to have music that shoots water up when different musical notes play! They have so many water pipes connecting to everything i hope the plumbers get it right the first time and dont have to do too many redo's
  15. I work for the general contractor that will be doing the demolition and construction for magnolia park. My dad tells me he heard a rumor about a 8 story building going somewhere around that site. when new construction begins. Could be fact or fiction but i think some of the harpers let it slip to him.
  16. While we were working on the hotel today they turned it on several times and i dont think this will be running when the hotel opens. I was watching them carry all the tv's up to the rooms and could feel the heat comming from the dryer vent were they were trying to wash the sheets and dry them before it opens
  17. Hey its me again. Yeah i know it seems annoying but yes i am also going to be working on this building also. I think they told us we will have half a million brick to lay on this building. Its a very nice building with nice looking architecture. We are currently finishing up that new breezeway that comes down from the cafeteria, and will eventually connect to the new research center. We built 55 piers and a rotunda there. Its not finished yet though. The hospital system is forever growing with new and interesting things it seems.
  18. I think the camperdown should be going up soon. I am going to be working on it with my company and it looks pretty close. To me it looks like there are plenty of nice buildings that will add a lot to the skyline, and not that far off. I would say that the pinnacle, and the camperdown are the closest. There is supposedly a 12 story that will be at the riverplace location which we also built, but im not sure if that is still on the drawing boards. I really want to see the tower at falls and broad get built. Looks very interesting. -Evan
  19. Anderson and Spartanburg remind me a lot of each other despite the lake being in Anderson.
  20. Well i guess i could stay around....all i said in my previous post is that i am a Brick mason for them and have worked on all their big projects including river place, and house. ICAR is another, and the charter communications building, and also the new museum. I enjoy building things so i thought it would be fun to be around here. Spartan...i come to clemson all the time and ride my jetski at clemson beach. No hard feelings....i just wanted to share some things ive did and some future projects. I know you are all wanting to hear about that 14 story building called the Camperdown that we are supposed to do the masonry on. Ill stick around -Evan
