I was skeptical but NASCAR seems to have come kicking and screaming into the 21st century. I’ve been impressed they finally seem to have the people in place to update the sport.

They had no choice.  All their superstars retired and they're losing ground fast to F1 especially with younger people.   Rumor is one of the lower tier series will go all electric too.  They're trying to tow the balance between going back to their roots with short tracks and attracting younger viewers with road courses, and new cars.

Speaking of NASCAR I deliver mail to one of their Spokesman. Just moved in from NYC and he was hired to make the sport more appealing to minorities. He was pushing it on me big time but I’ve never been interested in NASCAR because of its history, origins and countless left turns in their closed circuit race tracks. Unlike FORMULA1 which seems more exciting to me personally because of the international appeal and  twisty turvy race tracks.

I think conceptually Disney may demand this, but not necessarily versus Universal.  See my response to the new poster from Tampa.

I personally think a station at Hard Rock Casino would be brilliant for BL, but I also think Disney would negotiate somehow to have the right to veto it based on their track record to date in CFLA...

I'm unfamiliar, has Disney been vocal in blocking casinos in Florida in the past?

Disney funded all the PACs that were against casinos.

In the Chapek era, the company has been rethinking their strategy on gambling (it’s going to be almost a necessity for ESPN). It may provide an opening for the first time as it affects Florida. It seems “The Brand” is taking more of a back seat than it did with Bob Iger.

I assume you mean the Tampa Hard Rock? I’ve always wondered since I’ve never been.  It seemed like they would have to upgrade the facilities once they added the Hard Rock flag but I guess not.

Somehow I missed like 20 messages.  I was actually referring to the Citrus Bowl.

oh yes.  in fact, Disney has already gone up against Seminole Indian Tribe who wanted to build a theme park/casino off of Neptune in Osceola County.  I thought it was a brilliant idea actually.  But they killed it.  And they will kill any efforts at a Hard Rock Station ala BL in Tampa I would guaranty you.  I would take the train to go there in a heart beat, but HSR brings Hard Rock "closer" to Disney (and not in an NIN sort of way), and as such would be perceived as a threat of stealing away tourist dollars.

Hard Rock Tampa is cool.  you pull into the garage literally on the floor of the skywalk into the entrance.  Very civilized.  Now they've expanded it even more with a few new casino rooms and the hotel tower.

I mean, Hollywood Hard Rock is an insane place.  But Tampa's is a good destination.  It's fun.  Casinos are always fun.  Just ask Roth and Dan Tanna.

Oh my, @jrs2, a Dan Tanna endorsement? You know, of course, Robert Urich was a ‘Nole (he and Burt Reynolds were bffs). In fact, on Urich’s next show, “Spenser:For Hire”, there’s an early episode with a kid with a Florida Gator toy on his bulletin board and Spenser knocked it around while saying, “Gators, hate’em, hate ‘em” (that was a conceit of the TV show by the way - in the books, Spenser did not go to school in Florida).

Yep, I knew both he and Burt were Seminoles...I used to watch the Bobby Bowden show and Burt would come on.  He's one of my fav actors (was, but always will be).  Dan Tanna was awesome.

I did not know that about Spenser For Hire.  That's awesome...

Interesting video. Nothing definitive or anything we haven't already discussed, but similar discussion in video form:

Great video.

Well, he shows the route intersections at 12:13.  Clears it up a bit...

I think Disney will agree to this with one condition...that the Disney station opens at the same time as the I-Drive station...so if Sunrail builds the line (the State), they will do it all the way to Diz Springs so that Disney doesn't get left out in the wind if for some reason the rest of the leg to Tampa gets delayed.

I just wanted to say I VERY much appreciated this reference.

In the past yes, but they were actually unlikely bedfellows in 2018 on Issue 3 with Seminoles.  I don't think history has as much consequence as usual in this case.

Tampa Hard Rock is a legit destination casino.  Is it as good as Hollywood?  No, but that's the flagship.  As their sister property, it's more than acceptable.

Good overview but didnt win over and nay votes with that type of coverage.  Just affirmed that transit is for people who dont have a car and that this sales tax would be to make their lives easier with no direct benefit to the 80% commuting by car.

Universal, SunRail, Brightline eye $1B rail expansion from Orlando airport to I-Drive
https://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/transportation/os-ne-brightline-sunrail-universal-deal-20220505-jxod4cgkabbsnp5pmniaiq43mi-story.html

A presentation Thursday called the “first salvo” by Orlando’s mayor shows Brightline, SunRail and Universal working toward building passenger-rail tracks from Orlando’s airport to a station near the Orange County Convention Center and then to south International Drive. Dubbed the “Sunshine Corridor,” the tracks and station would cost roughly $1 billion, though no design has been done for a cost estimate, and are envisioned for hourly Brightline trains and quarter-hour SunRail service. As part of the presentation and for the first time publicly, Universal and International Drive partners disclosed pledges of $125 million for rail and station construction, 13 acres for a station site, a guaranteed $13 million in annual ticket sales and $2 million annually for maintenance.
