The parking spots should be utilized to separate the road and the bike lane instead of creating points of conflict where vehicles exiting and entering parking must cross the bike lane. A little bit of repainting to permute the bike lane and parking would go a long way.

walk around Ballantyne with the Charlotte urbanists today and I think the 26 story tower still has one more floor to go.  Boy it is tall compared to everything else around it.  The Stream Park was busy with families and kids.   Ballantyne Reimagined.  In terms of the people walking around this retail and restaurant area called the Bowl will be a major success.  People are really wanting this walkable area even in the suburbs.

Great being there as well today, the weather was awesome! This project truly is phenomenal!

the 26 story apartment tower has topped out.    The Oro aka Gold tower will be the tallest building outside central Charlotte.   See above photos.

The Bowl at Ballantyne adds another Southend favorite according to the Biz Journal. 

""Hawkers Asian Street Food is the latest tenant to sign on at The Bowl at Ballantyne, according to a press release yesterday. That restaurant expects to open in early 2025.

Hawkers made its debut in Charlotte in early 2019 with a restaurant at the Design Center of the Carolinas complex in South End. ""

Others include Flower Child, North Italia, Bossy Beulah's, OMB, Harrietts Hamburgers etc.  These places will all do good down there.

@KJHburg / Kevin was right when he said the 1st Wegmans in Charlotte would be in Ballantyne.

As it happens, Kevin's in Raleigh today at one of the 4 Wegmans in the RDU metro.

Excerpts from today's Business Journal:

"Northwood Investors confirmed Wegmans has plans for an 110,000-square-foot location on its Ballantyne campus. The store will be on North Community House Road on the east side of Ballantyne.  That places it less than a half-mile from Ballantyne's mixed-use development, the Bowl at Ballantyne, which has nabbed tenants such as Olde Mecklenburg Brewery, North Italia, Flower Child, Harriet’s Hamburgers and Rooster's — all scheduled to open this year."

"It is targeting a third-quarter 2026 opening.  The regional supermarket chain has built a significant following for its unmatched customer service, restaurant foods, one-stop shopping and consistent low prices."

"The Ballantyne store will feature all of the traditional departments, including produce, a wide variety of seafood, meat, bakery, deli and cheese options, and a large selection of wine and beer.  In addition, the store will have a market café with indoor and outdoor seating for customers to enjoy Wegmans restaurant foods.  It also is known for its high-quality seafood and sushi, meats, baked goods, deli, beer, and foods from around the world.  Additional offerings include Meals2Go and catering, online shopping capabilities, a floral shop, coffee, home and entertaining options, and family packs."

The Chapel Hill Wegmans is great.  This store will be very popular.  Charlotte residents  from Western NY (Wegmans’ home) will be especially happy.

My little corner of the universe had the worst 2m radius grocery selection (very small HT and the smallest Fresh Market ever) but now a Publix in 2025, Wegmans in 2026, plus the already built Lidl).  I will be able to ride my bike to Wegmans via the greenway and Ballantyne Backyard bike lanes.   Plus the location off of Community House makes it tolerable to drive to vs going down Johnston past 485.

another view of the new Ballantyne Wegmans from their own website.  @CLT Development predicted this Wegman's location too.  The clue was the Northwood rezoning where there was a 110,000 sq ft big box store and that along with the fact of their great success in Wake County I knew they planned to come here.  This is the best location for a new entrance to this market and other stores will follow. 

As for Earthfare, it might still do fine but all the rest of the competition is the same they have in Raleigh Whole Foods, Harris Teeter, Publix, etc and no grocery store has closed in Wake County due to their stores.  Y'all will love the in-store dining too much better seating and food quality than any other local store.

This Ballantyne Bowl redevelopment of the golf course area is just beautiful.  Kudos to Northwood for doing a great job on this retail strip of mainly restaurants.  I predict this will be a hot spot for south Charlotte and Lancaster County.  The 26-story apartment tower looks great too.  North Italia and Flower Child opening soon as well as OMB.  The details like the outside patios and seating are just fantastic too.  

If you want an example of new placemaking go see this.  With the Amp drawing in concerts and the existing new Stream Park attracting families with kids this place is going to be a great place for south Charlotte.

I'm sure this is going to be great, but I wish they had invested in more mature trees, you know they could have just moved a bunch around on property. These photos look like Shade will be hard to come by.

We built this city on rock and roll.   (and with the Amp they really have)  It is amazing how this area has changed in the last year or two.  26 story apartment tower the tallest building outside of the center city areas.  I suggest we have an UP meetup at the new OMB here with a 15 minute tour of the Bowl.  It is all quite impressive.   

Today.   North Italia and Flower Child have opened. OMB this weekend and there was a swarm of workers there this afternoon.

Went to Flower Child yesterday, word got out quick and it was very busy. This is a pretty high quality shopping center, will be a huge success. Hopefully they expand it

With only 3 places open in the Bowl this area continues to attract people.  To the park and playground nearby.  To the 3 businesses open including OMB.  Wait until the apartments and the rest of the retail and restaurants open. This will deep south Charlotte's central place believe me.  Plus this will help with office leasing at the park too.  I still think a UP meetup should be done at OMB with a quick walk around the Bowl what do you think @CLT Development?

^^ To be honest, I think this going to be one of those “it’s so crowded, nobody goes there anymore” Yogi Berra-ism. There just isn’t enough places for the masses and think it will frustrate a lot of people that it’s too crowded. I wish the main drag of places was 3x as long to become an actual town center for the huge Ballantyne population. Hoping the  OMB is at least big enough to hold the “dammit…every other restaurant is packed” crowd.

I am excited about donuts, coffee and greenway walks (that loop around community house to greenway to bowl is about 4m).

I think once the first section of this is completed and open the retail and apartments I think they will start on the next phases as those surface lots between the Amp and Bowl retail are temporary.
