So the rezoning request made by Winston Tower Church is for the County...as expected. Judging from recent articles, it sounds like they're pretty much set on using the Phillips Building for the Sheriff's Office/911 center, and eventually the jail expansion. Honestly, I cant think of a better use for this building, and it pretty much guarantees new construction for the Hall of Justice.

Downtown Deli is moving to a larger space on the ground floor of One West Fourth Street. The new location is nearly twice as large, and gives them an opportunity to expand their Fat Dawg catering services. 4th and Liberty was the original site for the Downtown Deli, formerly TJ's Deli, before Magnolia demolished the structure for OWF. The owners consider the move a homecoming.

A Tapas bar is planned for the Speakeasy Jazz space. Restaurant owners, Terry and Freddy Lee, (Bernardin's and Bleu) plan to open, Tonic in early June. Expect lots of natural light, sofas, chairs and an open, airy feeling to the new restaurant. Glad to see this space get occupied in no time!

See the new signage on Jason's blog.

I read in the WS Journal and the Triad Business Journal that there is a building on Fourth Street that is to be auctioned. Evidently, they need to settle an estate. The location is nice on 4th St across from the Chamber of Commerce and next door to Foothills Brewery. It will be interesting to see how the auction fares in this economy. Anyway, here is the Journal article and a website about the auction.

Level 23 opens tomorrow. Hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

Great news! Judging from walking by, this is going to be a very nice addition to downtown! I wonder what brands they will carry? Will it be indie designers or luxury brands?

Another relocation from the suburbs/office parks! Downtown seems to be a hotbed for advertising agencies.
