  1. I like that he kept the original name. Very nice project and wow @ him admitting to planning a high-rise a couple years ago.
  2. I think its Greensboro more so than the Triad.
  3. This is rumored to be the next phase involving WFU. We dont know yet if Building 90-1 will be office, lab, residential, or all three!
  4. I think this is the best use for this buidling, Downtown and the city needs a true luxury hotel. I know QW will do a great job preserving the RJR legacy in downtown Winston-Salem and hopefully attract interest in neighboring historic properties. Hopefully this works out so the general public can enjoy the interior. Ive heard hat its just as impressive as the Empire State Building.
  5. Fox8 reports on the recent success of downtown commercial space. The downtown vacancy rate has dropped below 10% for the first time in many years. The city has 5 million square feet of commercial real estate downtown, which is second in size only to Charlotte. Currently, only about 400,000 square feet of that space is available for rent or purchase. That's really unheard of in this economy. In downtown there is virtually NO class A office space available, Gayle Anderson, President and CEO of the Winston-Salem Chamber of Commerce, said. watch: http://www.myfox8.com/news/wghp-downtown-winstonsalem-fills-more-than-90-percent-of-commercial-space-20111229,0,5438407.story
  6. 4th Street park coming together. Bailey Power Plant exterior demolition looks to be complete? Biotech Place update coming soon. 11-26-11
  7. The really exciting news is that its already under construction. I have no doubt that this will be just as popular as CityView. I do like the linear brick details. Im still not a fan of adding so much surface parking, but still I consider this a good project for downtown. Hopefully that rooftop bar is facing the ballpark.
  8. Two downtown business closings were announced recently. After 20+ years of business, Urban Artware will close at the end of this year if the store is not successful in finding a buyer. Owner, Millicent Greason Spivak says lack of buyers and personal life are the reasons for closing. Kernel Kustard has closed their store in the NIssen building. Owners did not give a reason. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Two restaurant construction updates: Xia's Asian Bistro and Sushi Bar http://downtownwinst...bar-update.html Spring House Restaurant http://downtownwinst...e-and-some.html ----------------------------------------------------------- More Main St. residential? This building on the corner of Main and 7th is up for rezoning next month. Its sits opposite Winston Factory Lofts
  9. ^ Yeah, this is within the W-S limits. Fox8 aired a story on this saying SE Forsyth is still one of the fastest growing areas of the Triad. Its unfortunate that the VA prefers a more sprawling medical center instead of an urban one. I really wanted this for PTRP.
  10. The new Winston-Salem area VA clinic will most likely be built in Kernersville instead of PTRP. Two downtown sites were on the short list for the 280,000 sf facility, but were later ruled out for lack of land for future expansion if needed. The Triad would gain 1,000 new jobs form the new clinic. If the HOT initiactive still exsists, I guess this would be a major boost. http://www.bizjournals.com/triad/news/2011/10/31/kernersville-hospital-site-likely-spot.html
  11. The Bus. 40 design master plan was uveiled yesterday at BB&T Ballpark. The Creative Coalition presented plans to the public of a dynamic, green, artistic highway through downtown with the centerpiece being an iconic arched bridge South of the Financial District. Other bridges along US52 could also have smaller arches. Other Highlights Include: green medians, sculptures, lights, murals along underpasses and improved pedestrian walkways connecting East Winston and Old Salem/Brookstown to downtown. gallery: http://www2.journaln...s-plan/gallery/ article: http://www2.journaln...ls--ar-1521808/
  12. King's Crack Shack is open @ 239 W. Fourth St. The casual restaurant features a 40-foot bar with six to eight oyster-shucking stations. http://www2.journalnow.com/business/2011/oct/18/wsbiz01-business-briefs-ar-1508593/
  13. Thanks for posting this. Congratulations to those at DWSP and Old Salem Museums and Gardens for their hard work in making Winston's core a vibrant place. People are noticing.
  14. Livability.com ranks Winston-Salem as having the 2nd most livable downtown in the nation. 'A good downtown, whether it anchors a big city or a small town, acts a little like an addiction.
