They didn't change anything in the "plaza." Look at it on Google StreetView. They just added an area for what I hope will be the outdoor seating area of that restaurant.

TMG will open on Monday: The State

The ground floor will include an upscale restaurant, fitness center, and NBSC Branch. Anybody have any info on what the restaurant will be?

Nope; for some reason, they haven't released that info yet.

If I remember correctly, the restaurant will go in the space facing the plaza. I know there's an entrance for a space facing Main, and I'd assume that's for the bank branch, so I wonder where the fitness center will go?

Oh yeah, and will the NBSC sign go on the front side at the top of the tower? It hasn't been installed yet, but the rendering shows one there.

The article said this will probably be the last big project like this to happen for some time, and that will probably be the case, barring some big corporate relocation that will take up a lot of office space in the CBD. I was actually surprised to see this one announced. I'm glad Columbia got its big office projects off the ground before the economy collapsed.

The things they will hang the sign on are sticking out of the building up there, so I guess that will be the crowning touch soon.

That's what the rumor was, but it's not yet been confirmed.

And since it's been completed, I don't think the plaza is that bad. If the restaurant does go into the space facing the plaza and outdoor seated is added, that will make it all the better.

Compared to the two rows of trees, big bushes and the black paved parking lot, it's a dramatic improvement. Maybe they'll eventually put in a water feature.

I heard from a reliable source that the restaurant in the Tower at Main & Gervais will not be a High Cotton, as had been thought, and that the entire talk of a High Cotton was rumor from the start. Local businessmen are trying to recruit a restaurant to the site but have not yet succeeded in finding something.

I think High Cotton would probably prefer to be in the Vista if they were to come to Columbia anyway.

That;s fine with me; when rumors said it would be High Cotton, I checked out their menu online and wasn't that interested.

It's bad enough SC's legislators slapped up the Confederate across the street. A restaurant called High Cotton there would be just a bit too much.
