The entire left side of that photo (aside from the Westin) did not exist when I moved here in 2006.

I count 7 new buildings within what, 2 blocks of each other? Neat.

Went to Optimist Hall yesterday for lunch with a couple of co-workers. I had some pork Ramen for $14.00+ at this to-go spot (shall not be named) and it was the blandest Ramen I’ve ever had. A 20 cent Ramen package from the grocery store had more flavor.

That aside, this was the first time for me being out at Optimist Hall. As I was leaving, I noticed this view of Uptown from the 2^nd level outside seating. It’s actually a pretty cool shot despite the elevation being lower than Uptown. I’m sure the view is going to change once the construction in front gets finished (whatever they are building there).

Flew to Charleston for brunch and general walk around with my friends on their plane today.  What a great day for it.  Managed to get a few shots but quality is just so-so.  These were the best.

I’ve enjoyed watching uptown grow from this angle.  Here’s a shot from today with the new crane assembled for completion of the stalled hotel next to the wonder wall.

Spent the day in downtown Concord and lots going on there with historic preservation, 3 apartment buildings going up, new courthouse going up. As the regions 2nd city, 10th largest city  in NC with over 100K people. and the 2nd city named in the official metro name Charlotte-Concord-Gastonia MSA they deserve some attention which I often and others bury in the ring cities thread. 

From my guided walking tour with the Concord Downtown agency.  Yes Concord is rising.  2 cranes up now 3rd one arrives soon.  

1.2.  1903 building being renovated into 14 apartments 2 retail spots.  PM Morris building built in 1903.  Being renovated by a Charlotte developer who did old Cabarrus Bank and Trust. 

3.4. old Cabarrus Bank and Trust building is now 17 apartments and ground floor coworking space and home of the Cabarrus EDC

5. 6. old city hall annex renovations ongoing and preleased all the office space to a new HQ relocation from Lumberton NC 

7. Novi Flats apartments wrapping new county owned parking deck.  48 units

8. crane up at the Novi Rise apartment tower 167 units 7-8 stories

9. crane up at the new 250,000 sq ft expansion of the Cabarrus County courthouse

10. crane at Novi Rise again 

11/12. Mac Tabby Cafe a 2nd location for NoDa parent.  Bennys Pizza also in NoDa is coming to downtown Concord too.

13/14 the old Hotel Concord now Concord own View apartments and with ground floor retail. 

15. smaller brick building next to Hotel Concord aka View is slated to be one huge restaurant or brewery and it is 20,000 sq ft.  it is actually one of the original 3 movie theaters in downtown. 

16. new courthouse.

Union Street through downtown will go on a road diet, wider sidewalks for dining, parklets, new trees, bike lanes etc. 

Downtown Concord's tax value right now is $50 Million as much of downtown is tax exempt government owned properties.  Just the 3 Novi apartment complexes will add $70 M in value basically doubling downtowns tax base.  The 3rd apartment not pictured by next to the Mac Tabby will have a rooftop restaurant and 89 more apartments. 

So if you think of Concord as exit 49 and the mall and speedway come downtown and see a city on the rise!

Skyline shots from various angles walking and drive bys.  as I say views from the westside are the best side.   Notice how I centered the power tower on the previously named Duke Energy Center.

Not a picture post, but if you like to get on Google Earth and look at cities, Charlotte’s skyline was just updated to almost current(Duke tower halfway up). They appear to update the skyline on there every 2-3 years.  It’s interesting to see Southend’s emerging skyline, and to imagine what it will look like 3 years from now.
