Other cities scope out Greenville

Folks from Augusta, GA were in Greenville on Monday to interview Greenville Drive management about West End Field. The Augusta Greenjackets are trying to build a similar facility in Augusta.

Two much larger cities are planning to send delegations to "study" Greenville in the fall. It will be announced later this summer who the two cities are. It'll probably be in the Journal. Keep your eyes and ears open.

^I wonder if they mean "much larger" in comparison to the city population or the metro population. Remember that one article comparing Athens and Greenville that kept referencing how much "smaller" Greenville was than Athens?

I noticed a City of Wilson, NC car driving around downtown and other parts of the city this past weekend. It was being driven by a lone individual, but perhaps it was an initial "scope out" before their city delegation makes its journey.

Rome, GA is the latest city to scope out Greenville. Rome officials will be in Greenville Sept. 6 through 8 to look at downtown redevelopment, public-private partnerships, the arts, etc.

Interestingly, Rome won the Great American Main Street Award the same year Greenville did (2003).

While I was in out of town this week, I learned that Milwaukee is apparently gathering a delegation to fly to Greenville (mainly to look at Falls Park and West End). Not sure when.

There were probably some people from Cleveland, Ohio visiting town. Officials up there picked the same architect who designed Libery Bridge to build a pedestrian bridge for them.

As Augusta makes efforts to revitalize their downtown, this article from the Augusta Chronicle calls out Greenville, Chattanooga and Charlotte as success stories to follow. Good to see Augusta focusing on downtown. Lots of potential.

There is a nice insert from the Chamber of Commerce in today's Greenville News which has an article called, "Greenville Plays Host to Outside City Leaders." It is a pleasant write-up about some of the many recent visits by delegations from various cities around the eastern U.S. and even one from our sister city in China. Here is the article's closing sentence:

"In the end, it is an enormous compliment to Greenville's community leaders and the community, as a whole, for the goals already met and the visions of tomorrow."

Wow! This town from Kentucky had some glowing things to say about Greenville. Nice article. A few errors.....like "Michelin has a large plant", not "Michelin has its North American Headquarters and multiple factories". Anyway, good read.

Eh, more of an omission of totality than an error. The biggest single employee site for Michelin is their plant in the southern part of the county.

The spelling errors in that article made me cringe (and I suck at spelling, so I give lots of wiggle room for those who commit errors). Nonetheless, it was a great compliment to Greenville. These articles never get old!

Good article from the Decatur, Alabama newspaper about downtown Greenville. Main focus is on the trees.......the difference before and after the plantings several years ago. Very complimentary article. God read.

I didn't have a chance to read the article yesterday, but when I tried to follow the link above this morning, it wouldn't work for me. I went to the home page and guess what was the headline story? Yes, this one! lol This one was posted today, so there may be updates to the one yesterday - I noticed that the trees are not even close to being the main focus in this article. Very, very nice and enjoyable read!
