Really liking this addition. usually no attempt is made to make an addition blend with original or so it seems.  This really looks like it belongs to the original court house.

Yeah. I was worried this would have ended up looking cheesy compared to the original building. In the last few weeks this had really come on and looks great.

As simplistic as this building looks, it really is growing on me.  The one aspect that i kind of find amusing is that the windows look like they have crosses in them.  Could give someone that is not from the area the impression that it is a religious building.

I don't think the federal government will spring for it, but the new tower definitely *should* be lighted from below in the evenings, to emphasize its contrast from the old building.

I'll eat my words a little- this did turn out a bit better than I thought it would.  The new matches up well with the old.  The top of the tower still looks weirdly "incomplete" to my eye, though...it's like they forgot...something.   Ah well...still looks way better than the renderings.  

The new sure does make the old's need for a good cleaning pretty glaring...time to break out the pressure washer.

Happily, the existing building will get a full renovation & rehab once all of the current staff can move into the new tower.

I think I understand what you are saying TMBK.  The top could of had something to make it look finished.  Like the dark band along the top of the old part.  Still think they did a good job with this.  Lighting would be nice as well.

Absolutely - it needs a cornice detail at the very top of the building. That way, the top floor would read as the "capital" in the base-shaft-capital vertical composition. I'm really surprised this was omitted (unless it is yet to be installed - although the renders posted earlier don't show anything like that). It really ruins an otherwise decently-detailed building, and leaves it feeling "incomplete" as mentioned above.
