Yeah, that building has been there a long time. I never noticed it util they tore down the buuilding where Icon is being built. It's amazing to think about all the little buildings and businesses that will probably be snatched by deveopers. Teazers. Rocky's. McKinney's bowling supplies, the body shop, etc.

I drove by on Saturday and it looks pretty much the same as it did weeks ago. Is Moch waiting until they find Hoffa for the ribbon-cutting ceremony or is this just a normal pause in development?

The only thing I've seen besides utilities is the steel sheet piling being installed on the south and east sides. The phone people are here every day for about 6 hours splicing thousands of little wires to get the cables underground.

Update: The sheet piling is all along the south and East sides now. Either they went right through the bedrock or missed it altogether.

The retaining wall things are installed along most of the south side, and all along the east side of the lot. Now they have smoothed the dirt out and are digging a long the east side near Trowbridge...and they are installing the wall thing along trowbridge. Its quite neat actually; they drive these big 20' tall sheets of steel straight into the ground until its only sticking up a little bit. That machine has got to be as powerful as all hell to do that.

Nope, just a pretty commonly used design for residential mid-rises and high-rises, at the moment. Just look at Chicago, Minneapolis, or even the Ellington going up in Detroit at the moment. This particular design scheme is popular and more importantly, cheap.

Wonder what the additional cost would have been to make it underground parking. They could have accomplished it with only 1 or 2 levels, because the parking would only needed to serve the residents.
