since Kannapolis city is in both Cabarrus and Rowan counties I will put this development map here.  Most of the city is indeed in Cabarrus but some is in Rowan.

Great map!  Note what they did in my neighborhood on the West Side . (Adair and The Farm).  Kannapolis annexed the used-to-be farm land for those two developments and several more without nothing more than a street that connects the boundaries to the actual contiguous town. Have you ever heard of that?  It's an island of the town of Kannapolis five miles from the limits.  This gave, and is giving the future section  soon to be developed,  water, sewer and fire services. The only reason the future development was delayed was because it came out at the protest a few years ago that there was no provisions for schools.  This area used to be considered part of the Davidson ETJ zone about 15 years ago. Boy, did the developers hate that.

I am not sure that is even allowed anymore in NC because annexation laws changed after that.  Other than utilities that is maybe all they provide.  Kannapolis city schools don't even cover the whole city limits now as the school district stayed the same size and many students living inside of Kannapolis attend Cabarrus County schools.
